DesktopX or Litestep

Hi,

What's the difference between Litestep and DesktopX?
Do they work the same way?
Which one takes less memory?

Thanks!

When you start your computer, the program that puts your desktop on screen is called "Explorer.exe". This is known as a Shell. Litestep is a "Shell replacement", and involves changing a line in your System.ini file so that Litestep becomes the shell instead of Explorer.exe. This can be quite daunting unless you are confident with the workings of your system.
DesktopX is a "Shell enhancer", meaning that it doesn't remove Explorer.exe, but sits over the top of it and allows you to customize your desktop however you want.
having used both quite extensively, I have to come down on the side of DesktopX. It's great fun, and you can start making your own themes straight away without learning all the idiosyncrasies of the step.rc in Litestep.

I think "Temperamental Peculiarity" is quite an apt description of the step.rc!
