Unit moves randomly instead of attacking

I have been trying to attack a few different monsters on the map except when I click on them with the red crossed swords to attack them I move in a random direction instead.  I have tried reloading, restarting my computer and re-validating my install. 

I noticed when they moved randomly, the explore would get turn on so I tried going to the next turn and turning it off but the same thing happens again.  I tried leaving those monster and fighting different ones and its the same problem.

I had the same problem. I assume you are talking about the overworld map and not the battle map. I think I had set the units to explore when I was trying to rotate the map ( if I have zoom in on city set in the options, sometimes the world map will be rotated 45 degrees).  I got frustrated and tried every key on the keyboard. I seem to have fixed the unit movement by selecting every unit and clicking explore several times.

I never turned on explore ever for any of my troops to explore, but I did try separating them turning explore on and off (a lot of times).  Not a single one of my troops can attack any targets on the overland map.
