Fences 2 crashing windows explorer, bis

Fences 2 crashing windows explorer, bis

Hello,

I have been struggling to find a solution to this issue: Fences 2 causes Windows Explorer to crash. I have contacted the support service, but I am still waiting. I have uninstalled the program because the situation did not improve. What is the next move, please?

Here is my Ticket ID: XQV-247-32946

Hope to hear from you.

Joseph.

Specs for ASUS EeePC suggest Win 7 starter.... which 'may' be the issue, along with 'limited' ram - something that is critical at boot.

I have 2GB RAM and I use programs like Nero, Adobe Acrobat, and many others without any problem. It's only with Fences that I have this problem.

I agree , I don't think it's an amount of memory issue since I have 16GB, most of which Windows never uses.

Hello,

I am still waiting for a satisfying solution to the issue mentioned above. Here or in my mail inbox.

Having the same problem and I'm running Win8.  REALLY slows the system down and has a lot of crashes.  Sent in support ticket but no response.

I was using Fences for a long time and became a fan.  Glad I've been using the Fences 2 Trial and haven't paid for it yet.

I'm sure they have been getting a lot of messages on this...

Fences seems to cause a lot of fragmentation. This is why the crashes and slowing down of your system happen. In a day you have to defragment your your hard drive several times to have some respite from Fences. Or you have to install a real-time defragmenter...

jjbjolicoeur, is that something support told you about your specific system configuration? Is that your observation and have you reported that to support? It sounds weird to make such a statement when the evidence has not been presented...

I mentioned specifically "at boot".  Once a system is fully loaded HD and processor activity/demand settles down.

I highly doubt it is a 'fragmentation' issue...;)

I am moving this thread to SUPPORT where it will be seen by 'the right people'...;)

SUPPORT FORUM, that is.

I just observed that on my computer. Each time I used TuneUp Utilities 13 or other programs to help solve the crashes it showed a fragmented disk - I had only copied or moved objects through the Fences and not elsewhere. So I concluded that Fences fragmented my disk. Several times a day I have had to defragment my disk, but when I do not use Fences I do not have to defrag a thing. So...

What Support are you talking about?! I have written to them many days ago and I am waiting. Hope some day I get an answer. So, we are are trying to help one another in this forum. Let Support rest while we are wrestling with our computers.

It seems that in the Stardock forums, instead of trying to help, some are there to make fun of people having real problem using the Stardock software. Please, a little decency and decorum. We bought the applications and we are looking for real answers to the issues we have with them. If you have no solutions to the problems we posted, do not get angry and begin to insult or make fun of others. Where did you learn these behaviors? Human beings matter more than a program. They bought the programs and they expect some satisfaction while using them. Thank you for understanding this.

First, if I have offended you, jjbjolicoeur, I apologize. No one is angry or making fun of you, least of all myself. My reply in #38 was meant to infer that perhaps at least some of the trouble you are having may be of your own making.

Be that as it may, good luck with your "issue" and have a great day. :sun:

I really need to repeat... no Stardock product will necessitate someone defragmenting their disk 'several times a day', or even 'several times a year'.  'moved objects through the Fences' does NOT move anything on a disk other than the 'FAT' address [or equivalent ie. NTFS].  Moving a file to a SECOND disk will liberate sections of a disk but in absolutely no difference to any OTHER method of moving them.  Fences as such is benign.

Rereading the quote...it's just possible that TuneUp Utilities 13 itself is having issues with Fences and misinterpreting the results.

Anyway, I move the thread to 'Support' to see it have continued attention.

Hello, with the introduction of Win8 the support team is dealing with a higher volume of tickets than is usual.  We are helping hundreds of people a day and will continue to do so.  We're sorry about the delay and will try to get to everyone's ticket as soon as we can.

This issue has been sent to the development team though . . so it's out of support's hands.

I still encourage people to submit a ticket if they have the issue as more data might be the key.

Please note though, that "bumping" your ticket just moves it to the back of the queue.

Guys, i had the same problem,

It came to my mind to delete network shortcuts on desktop from work that i had, and when i deleted them there where no more crashes.

I think that when Fences starts and sees the shortcus it tryes to connect to the network, and when it`s not available it freezes and crashes.

Hope i help someone.

Cheers guys

Man, you made my day.

I knew it is working because by creating another user profile fences works.

After fiddling around by reading your mail I realized, that I had a dead shortcut on desktop. Deleted it and ... tatataaaaaa ... works like a charm!

THANKS!
