Object Desktop: Why did you buy it?

Object Desktop: Why did you buy it?

I was talking to people on IRC and found that they had bought Object Desktop for reasons totally unrelated to why I personally use Object Desktop. This made me wonder what parts of Object Desktop people really like.

I don't mean "I like WindowBlinds.." I mean, what specifically about Object Desktop (or WindowBlinds or any program on this site) do you find compelling enough to pay for?

Thanks in advance.

you know what? I can't even remember what exactly pushed me to buy OD, I started w/ windowblinds, then went to iconpackager, and then I think I contacted SD and asked if I could just upgrade to OD rather then register one by one the programs I liked when I seen I was leaning towards DesktopX and Windows FX.
I think it went something like that...

though to be honest, I hardly use anything but cursorXP, on WinXP themes, & trans 2k or Glass, these days cuz I'm too busy working to play...

I purchased WindowBlinds first, then I wanted BuilderBlinds, and it made sense to go for the whole ball of wax. I made 2 skins for WB. I would have continued skinning WB, but the updates came so quickly, I got fed up with trying to keep up. Then my subscription expired, and a few months later, I dedided to check out what improvements had been made with OB, and DtX, so I subscribed again. OB had really improved, (I still didn't care for DtX), I was going to try my hand at OB skinning, but found it was very convoluted, and gave up. Icon Packager's improvements weren't that impressive. Drive scan is almost identical to TreeSize Pro, but does less. Control Center still isn't skinnable....yadda yadda.
I'll always use WindowBlinds, but I'll save the rest of my money for other things from now on.
HoverDesk is better for my needs, and I get FREE upgrades for life
WindowBlinds and HoverDesk.......That's the ticket!!!

Too bad Brad won't let us have a HvD section here.

Desktop X alone is worth the money IMHO... I found it much more flexible than HVD (which I purchased, too). Of course I don't want to miss WB and Iconpackager anymore. Therefore I don't like OB that much.

Like a lot of people I purchased WB separately first and after reading the newsgroups wanted to be able to check out all the other programs.

Now I don't know what I would do without it. Between OB, WB, IconPackager, BandVWM, etc., etc, my machine is actually usable. For $50 you can't go wrong, especially with the number of upgrades to the major apps that are released every year.

Oh yeah, let's not forget what a great company Stardock is (IMO) ...

I bought Object Desktop because of WindowFX and WindowBlinds. To be honest, I was disappointed because WindowBlinds wasn't what the articles made it out to be (i.e. an improved version of MS Visual Styles when it was actually a different format altogether), but as it improved, I've used it more often and now use it regularly along with the other OD applications.

I first bought WB 1.3

Then i tried IconPackager and loved it! But it was DesktopX that made me fork over the money for OD and now I can't imagine being without it

I'll try to as brief as possible but this is not easy for someone cursed with the gift of gab. I've been playing around with computers since 1985. I started with an Atari ST because I couldn't afford an Apple. The Atari-ST had 2Meg of memory. Wow. I read about WindowBlinds in one of the many PC magazines that I subscribed to (I wish I could remember which one) but the reviewer couldn't say enough good stuff about WindowBlinds and I was saving up to purchace my first IBM-PC (clone). I thought at the time and still do that it would be great to personalize my computer to my own taste. Anyway more to the point, I think that Object desktop is the best thing to happen (at least to me) since sliced bread. I am slowly learning how to utilize ALL of the fantastic mini-app's contained within. I try to stay with one particular app in object desktop until I at least understand what can be done with it. For the money paid for a years subscription (now on my second year) you just can't beat the bargan anywhere else. I use just about everything from OD on my system and I've never had any problem. In fact it runs better and faster then before I started using all of these apps. I have 3 o/s installed in a multi-boot configuration. Windows ME (yuck), Windows 2000 (much better) and Windows XP Pro (the very best OS that Microsoft has produced so far). Object Desktop works great on every single one. As long as Stardock keeps producing so very much for so very little, I will be a customer for life.

Initially, I began using the shareware version of Windowblinds. When I decided to register it, I found out about OD and decided that I wanted the whole package, not just WB. I'm now in my second year of using OD and I look forward to see what is coming in the future.

I primarily bought it because I wanted to change my desktop the way I wanted it, namely with my own creations. There was an incentive to upload work to WC, but given the fact that it has been commercialized now, I won't upload any of my major works. I don't see why someone has to pay stardock for my work.

c242: I am not a spindoctor that tells me everytime a different reason, it's my opinion. There are skinners that get paid, in return they upload their creations (or is that not true). I don't get paid. I don't want to get paid either. And please stop the discussion it's not what this thread is about.
