Have yet to be able to load the game past intro screen. This is via steam and I have verified cache, tried running in compatibility modes as well as run as admin with same result. The main monitor is 2560x1440 display.
Crashes with full screen disabled as well
Please delete your 'C:\ProgramData\Stardock\Elemental - Fallen Enchantress\Screens' directory and let us know if that resolves the issue for you.
That did not resolve the issue and the issue still exist on patch 1.01

Bump, I would like to be able to play the game I purchased. Any suggestions welcomed.
Still cannot play the game at all on patch 1.02 please let me know if there is anything else i should try.
Error resolved after adjusting region settings.
Control Panel >> Clock, Region and Language >>> Change the date, time, or number format >>> Additional settings under formats tab >>> Changed Decimal symbol from a "," to a "."
Not sure why something like this would cause the game to not load 100% of the time but there is the fix if its effecting anyone else.
