Skinner Compatibility

I'm very new to skinning, so please bear with me...

So far, I've sampled DesktopX, Icon Packager, Windows Blinds, and Object Desktop. LiteStep looks very interesting too, but I haven't tried that yet. Before I discovered the wonderful world of skinning, I was running Microangelo to give my desktop icons a transparent label.

My question is, do most of these applications play nice together? Or should I pick one and only use that?

I've uninstalled Microangelo now, as I suspect it was interfering with Icon Packager, but I don't know for sure.

What do you guys think?

Microangelo should be no problem at all. It just does its thing to the system icons and then it's done. As far as I know it doesn't run in the background, or at startup. All the programs co-exist just fine. Iconpackager, like Microangelo, doesn't run unless you start it up and do something with it. Once it's done its thing and you close the program it has no further effect. DesktopX and Windowblinds or Litestep and Windowblinds would be fine running at the same time. ObjectBar would also be okay running with those programs.

Basically, they all do their own thing and don't interfere with each other.

well, ObjectBar and LiteStep do not work together in my opinion. ObjectBar does do some "evil" things with the systray (trayserver.exe). also there is not really a point running ObjectBar and LiteStep together.

I run Microangelo 5, Windowblinds and Icon Packager 2 together with no problems.
I use Microangelo to set my icon fonts, text colours and icon spacing, so it loads up the 'on display' program at startup.
But nope, never had any conflicts with it.

What are the symptoms you're experiencing that's causing the problems?

When I was running Microangelo with Windows Blinds, the icon labels were displaying erratically. Some had a transparent background, others had a colored background, and still others had a colored background of a DIFFERENT color. If I brought up another window over the desktop, then minimized it, the desktop icons appeared normally again.

I did discover a major incompatibility problem last night with Windows Blinds and PowerTools (an AOL add-on). They really don't play well together. So if I want to use PowerTools, I have to unload Windows Blinds. That's a shame.

If I wanted to change icon text and highlight color, could I do that without using Microangelo? Is it possible to do it using IconPackager, Windows Blinds, or some way that's native to the Windows 2000 OS?

Thanks.

Doesn't excluding PowerTools work?

Some of my icons were getting changed at boot up. I then setup IconPackager to be my "default" handler of icons and told Microangelo to not be my default. None of my icons have changed since then.
