Alignment of username in the start panel

I wonder if anyone can help me with this. I am using the Woody skin by Treetog. On the start panel in the userpane section my name is left aligned partially covering the "3Tog" logo. I have changed the ContentLeft and ContentTop attributes in SkinStudio to no avail.

I am beginning to think this is a Windows XP registry setting. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Also, I have the "Address Toolbar" showing on my Taskbar and beside the "Go" button the word "Go" is supposed to be displayed. However, I guess because of the Font setting, only "G.." is displayed. What is the best way to fix this as well.

I would appreciate any help that anyone could provide.

I have the same problem. And I am searching for a solution to display a user-pic when connected to a domain.

That does make sense. I am connected to a domain. But I would think that there is a registry setting somewhere that positions the username on the start panel!

There must be someone who knows. I have checked Microsoft's knowledge base and have not found anything that even remotely refers to this.

I fear, user pic in a domain is only possible by changing the wb-graphic. But positioning of the name has to have something to do with window blinds. (?) If not, this would be a request for the next build.

When connected to a domain, you can't use the picture feature and this is confirmed by Microsoft

Thanks, everyone for the help! I have come to the conclusion that the background graphic will have to be redone so that it aligns with the username. I just thought there must be something that controls the placement of the username in the startpanel.

I have tried adjusting all of the settings in the [user.pane] section of Windowblinds but even though the preview shows the username moving, it does not change in Windows. It is really ironic because all I want to do is move the Username in the Start Panel over about one inch to the right.

Oh well...more important things to worry about.

Thanks again!

The "content margin" (in the user pane section)attributes control the placement of the user name. Fiddle with the left and right content margins and you should be able to move it pretty much anywhere you would like.

If changing the content margins doesn't work, then it has to be something related to the domain issue.

I have adjusted the "content margin" in the userpane section many times. In the preview tab in SkinStudio it moves just fine. I then save the changes in SkinStudio and the reload the current skin but nothing changes.

I have a feeling that it all relates to being part of a domain instead of a workgroup. It just seems like this shouldn't be this hard.

On another post that is roughly about the same topic, I suggested that you could maybe add the pic of your choice in the top border bmp of the start menu with the help of a graphic app and modify the margin in SkinStudio so it won't stretch you picture at the wrong place. Maybe a bit tricky but that's the only way I can think of to do this when on a domain.

Oops, forgot to mention that you should also hide the username via the registry and add it as a bmp through you graphic application. As I said, not the most efficient way to do it but it should work on most skins.

And well, before someone ask, here's the link on how to do the registry modification:

Hope this helps

Just a note to everybody, especially FlipNET, that the solution worked great. I finally hid the username by using the registry modification and then used Photoshop to add the username text to the BMP file.

Thanks to everyone who helped solve this one. Also, I solved my problem about the "Go" button text not completely displaying when the address bar is displayed on the taskbar. All I did was reduce the "bold" attribute for the font to medium and the entire word "Go" now displays.
