New operating system from us and the skin is comming!

Hi, I am making an operating system and I just ported the interface to WindowBlinds. My company is Hakemon CTS and if you want to see the simple little interface that is comming, goto my operating systems site to see what it will look like. The interface is exactly what the windowblinds version looks like. Just go to hakemoncts.8m.net/syphest.html please tell me what I can do to make my OS look better. The OS is called Syphest. Its in it's alpha stages. But I have uploaded the skin and should arrive in a day!

Woah! That is one very... um... blue interface. It looks like Windows 95 mixed up with Windows 3.1. I have to say it does nothing for me, but other people may like the simple approach.

Is the OS totally new or is it based on windows or linux or something?

its totally new. it has its own code, no unix is in it. The commands are not even close to unix...

Well, in that case, it is quite impressive. It is not easy to invent an OS! Well done .

BTW, is is 'skinnable'? You could build it in to the OS - native support?

You just need to lisence Direct Skin from Stardock, right?

I think i will have to contact stardock. But it does not use Windowblinds, I made something else. But I will try to import it in to the OS.

A whole new OS?

Maximum respect my friend... I wouldn't even know where to start

Not to be rude.. But is this a few apps in VB, or a real live operating system? 42 bits is quite an odd number to throw out there. Are you meaning support for virtual 42 bit registers, 42 bit graphics(non-existent), or? The screenshot with the desktop listview had the shadowing as the XP desktop has(with common controls 6.0), and I've my doubts about you already having the win32 API implemented and full DirectX support. What gives?

For the 42 bits, I saw that a Intel Celeron and other pentium based processors could go 10 bits higher than the windows 32 bit support. I wanted to get an operating system to go that high. I could have goten to 64-bit, but thats really a job for the intel itanium to do. Its a real operating system, no visual basic was used. It does not use direct X, I cant do that. That is microsofts API. It tries to emulate it using the SHPGS which stands for Syphest High Polygon Graphic System. But lots of times, it locks up. The windows emulation, which uses a copy of windows to use the kernal, is realy only used for the basic stuff like microsoft money. I have tried several times to get Unreal or Quake to work. But the computer only freaks out. If you have a big inbox for an email client (one with at least 50MB, I can video tape it boot up and send it to you. You need 50Mb because I dont have a divx encoder. The shadows on the desktop icons are made to look like the ones on XP. I think Mac OSX has the same too. I could be wrong, i only saw it on TV. My Windows hard drive has a mac emulator but only has Mac OS 8.1. For graphics again, it also has an OpenGL system. But of course, if theres no Direct X, theres no Direct 3d. It can support up to 32bit color depth. It can have 256 bit graphics. But only the GeFore 4 can handle it from what i know. Keep checking my web site, more screen shots are comming. With an updated desktop. Thanks to the person that made the faux icon pack, I got permission from him to use his icons in my OS.

That is cool. I'd like to see the boot-up. Thing is, I only have 56k connection (which only connects @ 44kbps - terrible!!). Could you do a compressed version??? (My email: [email protected])
Is it graphic screens all the way, like XP?

Hey! I've just been @ your website - I like the new icons. I still think the buttons on the window titlebars need some attention - how about making them fade in when mouse over, and fade out when the mouse is not over them.
Another question - how do you do stuff? there does not appear to be either a My Computer thing or a start menu / apple menu type thing? Also, I like the liitle shortcut arrow ion the right bottom of the icons (that is what is is isn't it??)

Keep up the cool work

Hey Splash, Maybe you can do some icons for his new operating system! You were looking for something to do. Perfect opportunity.

Two questions:
Monster Truck Madness..requires Direct3D.
Your pictures with MDI applications replicate our MDI skinning bug on XP. If these are concept shots that's cool, but you really shouldn't go around saying you've got something if you haven't got it :/

Hey T-Man, you are brilliant!!!!

What do you say, Hakemon? Icons?
For the Monster Truck Madness game, its emulated graphics. For a menu, you push the key on the keyboard next to the Windows key, not the alt key though. Sure, if you want your icons on the second icon list, you can send the ico files to my email at hakemoncts.zzn.com

Thanks... I look forward to looking @ that.

Cool. Visual all th way. I think the 'Rendering desktop' message should be in the middle though. But it is good work.

Could you please answer this though: how do you actually use it? The screenshots I've sen don't seem to have any menu (start mnu, apple menu etc) type of thing. How do you get stuff done?
Splash, I put the rendering desktop at the corner because error messages go in the middle. When you want to use a menu, you push the menu button on the keyboard. Its next to the Windows key, the one that looks like a menu with a cursor. If you don't have that kind of keyboard, you push CTRL+M...

Ok. I understand. Could you post a screenshot with a menu open on it.

Great work, if this is a complete operating system, then I am very impressed. I assume that it uses parts of MS's API though (such as the COM). Any plans to build support for apps other than windows based into it?

That's quite good. I think the font would look better if it was a kind of tahoma/arial based rather than tims new roman based font.

I will try to update the font pack. I have been unable to reply to AJCrowley before, but now I can, I was having one bad lighting out. In florida. It uses the Windows kernal and parts of Win.com to work. Just to start your proof of owning windows. I am trying to put a Mac OS emulator in it on my own code so its leagle. Some linux/unix GUI software only...
