a little windowblinds poll

here's a couple of questions for you. who here uses smartbuttons in windowblinds, or even knows what they are? also, does anyone actually use a vertical taskbar in windows xp? i'm never really sure whether it's worth spending the extra time on adding these things to my skins.

I never use vertical taskbar and I don't know what smartbuttons are

I don't use verticle taskbars and would like to know what and how smart buttons work!

Never use vertical taskbar, rarely use smartbuttons when skins have them. A "neat" feature, just not real useful for me personally.

It seems that we need to get a Smart Buttons task force going. I nominate grayhaze to lead it!

I don't quite understand how smartbuttons work, although I really like skins that have a "always on top" button - but I never use the rollup feature nor any plugins (winamp WBmenus, etc.).

As for vertical taskbars, yes, I've been known to use them because sometimes I place an additonal QuickLaunch bar on the side of the screen for qick access to all my programs.

I don't use smartbuttons, yet. I don't use a vertical toolbar myself, either, but I always provide for it in my skins.

So...what the "smart buttons are?

i think we've discovered a slightly worrying trend here amongst skinners...

brad... what ARE smartbuttons?
This is pretty odd considering how much brad talked about smartbuttons being one of the greater advances in 3.x

no doubt it is odd but until recently there have been no examples.. >

smart buttons allowd you to change a button´s atribute/function. Example you can turn a rollup button into a on top button.
Personaly I don´t use them, because when I make a skin, I already make it with the butoons I usaully use.
I believe this could be most useful for non skining users, to change the buttons of a skin that they don´t need for another he wanted to have.

We don't get any answers, but at least this tread has fun, in a some way

oh! another thing...
Vertical taskbars...I use them...errr... just to set up a wb skin to see if the graphics are ok, other then that, NEVER!

I like the smartbutton. Logika supports them and I have mine set as a URL to come to this message board. Very cool indeed....

Don't use the vertical taskbar, just to accustomed to the horizontal one. As far as smartbuttons, I put them in for anyone that wants to use them. However, the only one that I use is the URL.

my Z skin support smart buttons tsk tsk tsk tsk you should read sometimes hehehehe

1. No, 'cos I don't use WindowBlinds
2. Taskbar is always at the top, set to autohide (don't need it)

One of the most useful features of WB is the 'on-top' button...to be able to control what's visible even when focus is lost.
That, and the roll-up....[just for fun]...

I use the vertical taskbar, 'cause I don't like my taskbar "crowded", and it is always set to autohide. Smart button used is for roll up. I don't use plug-in skins other than those found at the respective plug-in sites.

Don't get me wrong, but what is the "roll-up"?

I know what it means, but I don't know where it is... are you talking about the maximize-minimize etc buttons?
roll up snaps the bottom frame right below the titlebar, basically rolls up the window to the top. Some people find it useful, I don't use it much, but every time I do a new skin there are people asking for it.

i love the smart buttons. one of the reasons i have stuck with your skins consistantly.

I wish more skin authors would use them

If i could figure out this damn skin studio, i would use them as well.

i guess mostly i just don't include smartbutton support because, aside from URL shortcuts, i already include all the features like roll-ups and always-on-top as standard buttons. maybe one day when someone shows me the point of having the same URL shortcut on every single window, i might just start to use them...
I think you should, it would allowed people to disable some buttons they don't want.

that's why i include at least three different versions of each skin. if someone doesn't want the extra functionality of rollup and a.o.t, they can just use the 'simple' version of the skin. i guess in theory smart buttons are a good idea, but in my opinion until there are a lot more windowblinds plugins, there's really not much use for them other than as a curiosity.
