This is how you use LogonStudio......

For all those who are struggling with LogonStudio, follow these instructions and it should work perfectly.

1. If the file is zipped up, double click it to start WinZip.

2.hit "Extract", and in the next menu find C:\Program Files\WinCustomize\LogonStudio. Now click "Unzip".

3. Close WinZip, and go to the folder that you just unzipped to..(C:\Program Files\WinCustomize\LogonStudio

4. In that folder you should now see the .logonxp file that you downloaded. (It's usually a white rectangle with an X in the middle.)

5. Double click the .logonxp file. This should automatically open the LogonStudio program and your new logon screen will be in the list. Highlight it, (if it isn't already highlighted) and click apply.

6. If your new logon is NOT listed, hit "Refresh List" (which is immediately below the list) and hit "Apply".

7. If it still doesn't work after following these instructions, don't write to me!!

This method works perfectly for me, and I have tried to explain it as simply as possible. I hope it works for YOU too.
Good Luck!

Boxxi:

If a person is gonna use a .logon file they will I expect have XP which for the normal person eliminates the need for Winzip since XP can zip and unzip without winzip.

so without winzip the directions would be:

1. If the file has a .zip extention right click on it and choose Extract All.

2. click next then click browse: Browse to C:\Program Files\WinCustomize\LogonStudio

3.click next and then finish ( be sure to leave "show extracted files" checked)

4. a new explorer window will open up showing the file that you just extracted.

Continue with #five in boxxi's list...

David:
You can still use winzip with XP but it's not necessary, Since XP will do both on it's own along with treating a zip file as a folder for the most part.

XP does a poor job compressing files. I unzipped a file made a minor change then zipped it back up using the default from XP. I noticed that the file was much larger. Tried zipping it using Object Zip and it was the much smaller.

sounds like XP is using a different default level of compression.

powerdesk zip feature lists 5 different compression levels you can choose from.

7. 7.If it still doesn't work after following these instructions, try to rename the file from .logonXP to .zip , then unzip it -> go to Program Files->Wincustomize->Logon Studio and put manualy the folder you have unziped, in to Logon Studio. Then, open the LogonStudio.exe and select the logon you like and click OK.

That's how it works for me..

Technically you should be just double clicking on .logonxp files and it would apply.

Similarly, when one uploads a logon, it should be a .logonxp file they're uploading.

Frogboy,
I have tried to upload a .logonXP file and not a .zip, but it rejected! So still, I have to upload the logons in .zip file format.

Also if you want to include any user icons that you make to go with your logon screen, you HAVE to zip them up.
Well, I assume you do......

I also tried to upload just the .logonxp file and had it rejected as Adni said. Any ideas why the site is rejecting the files unless they are zipped up?

LogonStudio modifies the Windows Welcome screen. You need to be using this screen in order for it to work.
Go to Control Panel, select User Accounts, select Change The Way Users Log On Or Off. Make sure that both Use the Welcome Screen and Use Fast User Switching are selected.

Ok, here's my issue. I downloaded the .zip files, extracted the LogonXP files to the LogonStudio folder, and when I double click the LogonXP files, nothing comes up in the list...I don't even get a preview. I try clicking on APPLY anyways, and rebooting, but nothin works. What am I missing?
