anyone know how to get semi-transparent inactive windows?

Can I get semi-transparent inactive windows from using Windowblinds or WinFX maybe? If so, how?

In Windowblinds you can set explorer windows to be transparent. In WinFX you can set transparency on a per-app basis (with Win2K or XP) I believe with either solution both active and inactive windows would have that attribute.

It's been indicated in the past by Stardock that this would have too great a performance hit right now - however, it might be added in the future (almost certainly to WindowFX).

How can I set the explorer windows to be transparent? I don't see the option anywhere.

in windowblinds you can set explorer windows [only] to be semi-transparent. it won't show what's immediately beneath the window, but will rather drill down to the desktop.

open the wb advanced configuration window and go to the settings section. click the advanced button on the right, and you should see the option. check the wb2 help files for instructions on how to change the 'tint' of the semi-trans.
