IconPackager

Hiya guys :)

I downloaded iconpackager and was impressed about all those many designs. To be honest, it's hard to make a choice...they all look SO cool.

My question:

How can i create my own IconPackage, which program do i need ? I am hoping Stardock has a program to make ur own icons. And, when finished making a pack, how can i post them for others to use ?

If there's a link to an IconPackage maker, please send me the link ?

Many thanks in advance for ur answers.

If its the paid version there is a function called Icon Developer where you can make your own icons. I'm not sure how it works though having never used it. Best thing is to wait and see if someone more knowledgeable shows up. At any rate welcome to the WC.

Again, thx for ur answer Uvah. but what i meant was: Is there a program where i can CREATE/DRAW new icons/maps etc. Not using the ones available on stardock. I tried MS PAINT and PAINT.net but that dun do the trick, they dun look as nice as the ones in IconPackager.

So im actualy looking to create my own icons.

Any program u know of ?

I make mine in Photoshop, but if you don't have that, there is a free program called GIMP that is similar. Basically, you can use just about any graphic editor program to make them.

Once you have them made, you save them as .png files and use Icondeveloper to convert them into .ico format.

You can really make them any size, and Icondeveloper will convert them to the proper sizes. I usually make them large, around 500x500.

The largest icon size is actually 256x256, but if you make them bigger than that, it gives you room to be creative and it helps to keep things sharp looking. Just keep in mind that in most places, icons will not be at the largest size, and in a lot of cases you will be seeing them really small, so keep your designs relatively simple. Tiny details on a 500x500 image will get lost when it's shrunk down to 16x16. Actually, most detail is lost at that size, so don't get too hung up on that, lol.

Bigger is always better, an image will hold more clarity getting shrunk down than an image getting expanded will. The smallest size you should create them would be 256x256.

Many thanks for ur reply Xiandi, this helps alot. I tried 256x256 and my first one looks just fine. Is there a manual on GIMP ?

I've found that the easiest way to use GIMP is to cry a lot.

That certainly explains a few of the noises coming from your corner of the office.
