This Message Board is becoming to agressive. Is that possible that even if a congratulate with my friend and partner in public can be a problem?

Jesh, I don't understand why this can disturb you that much. Johanne is one of the most important contributors of the skins cummunity ever, in any way you can imagine to see, skinningand theming for dozens of different apps, hellping, designing, web designning, codding, with a personal portfolium that can cause envy to great skinners.

When on day she gots a very impressive number of dlls, for sure a great record , you run to point a bunch defects on her skin?

I'm afraid to say that, but you are wrong! The amount of downloads she recieved during the last hours are in her skins to prove you that.

As many people around here knows, I'm not a XP fan, because I don't like to see OS clones, but those skins were originally made by her and I am a testemony of that, I was on her side all the time during it's build.

I'm being around the skins cenarium during the last 2 years and I chalange anybody here to say that I ever made a bad comment on one single
skin, even if I hate it, I just add a comment if I think I a can put the person up, so please let us enjoy this special happy moment and if you have nothing good to say and have some extra time, go spend some time skinning, you will see, it's fun!

Over the years of dabbling in skinning, I have tried my hand at 'most' skinnable apps and shells....and in doing so have an intimate appreciation of the relative effort and complexity involved.
This knowledge puts me in good stead to moderate/rate/comment on another's attempts/creations. This, for example, is why I'm so vitriolic about photoskins in WinAMP...[spawn of the devil].
One of the most annoying things with creating LiteSTEP themes was having non-themers belittling the effort with comments of 'shitty wallpaper' or such-like.....when the real 'artistry' was actually in the Step coding and interface function....things totally lost on someone who has never done it.

Peer comments....commentary on your work by a fellow skinner who actually 'knows' what it's all about is always going to be of far more value to you as a skinner than someone in the public arena saying 'yeah, but it's XP'....

Alex, you devil....you sold out to the 'Gods of XP',...congrats for the bandwidth drain....[but I love you anyway]....

Congrats, Alexandrie I've bee using several of your XP variants this week. My absolute favorite is XP Forest. I've only recently started to learn skinning myself, so now I have an even bigger amount of admiration and respect for those that take it upon themselves to give the community new and creative ways to look at our desktops.

Well. I for one am thrilled with the skins Alexandrie posted yesterday. I am also enjoying the ones that are coming with the WB 3 beta.

I agree with treetog that all the downloads yesterday prove that there are *alot* of people that love them too.

Great job Alexandrie, thanks for sharing!

Alexandrie, the legenfary girl? Forest theme?
I wonder if she's going to star in Lord of the Rings?

Congratulations Alexandrie! You're one of the best there is. Great up the great work!

Nothing is easy anymore... this thread is a perfect example of all the extra 'alertness' people are feeling. Perspective is just going to be more difficult to achieve as the times get stranger... don't be 'alert', just be awake...

and congratulations O' Queen of the Site! You always do great Alex and I would be surprised if any skin you did was not an instant winner.

8,310 downloads today. That's >16,000 in 2 days.

treetog numbers/quantities of skins dont make a great skinner please. If that was the case Kodman from skinz.org would be sitting on mount Olympus smiling down on us all. Not sure if anyone remembers Kodman (i know Shoggot does haha).

You know what aggravates me i think. I'm sick of these OS ports and variants being heralded as art. I'm sick of people coloring over other people's stuff and calling it there own. Thats basically all i see here. Winxp this and WinXp that. MAC this and Mac that. Yeh they can be cool. But give me a break. This whole side of the community is nothing but a port rips and revamps in the last 4-5 months. How many win xp icon sets are there. Thank god for icon sets like Nitrogen and Yttrium. Real art inspired by the guys head instead of some apple of MS artist.

Time to start a revolution/evolution here. Time for original art to come back in style and to ditch these lame OS rips. Hey they can be cool when they are few and far between but this is getting ridiculous. I'm keeping some points of views to myself as to not start some shit but this site doesnt seem to be flourishing all that many original artists and its a shame when i know these same OS port kings and queens could be putting out some kick ass stuff.

And yeh brad of course the counts growing higher... its the featured skin.

Just remember though, Alexandrie didn't make these skins for download counts, she made them also partly to celebrate the launch of Windows XP itself and lots of people are interested in that.

If you want to see unoriginality, you should go look at what the hackers are doing with the patched .xpstyles stuff. It's like going in a time machine back to 1999. "Hey look guys, I almost have an Aqua skin done!"
yes its true. And i can only hope after the launch that we start seeing originality come back and the ports go. I was talking to someone who said in the old days they would call those "rips". Not singling out alexandrie on that last statement. In general i mean.

Hey hey, cut it out. Start a new thread for that. Otherwise there is this chance it will be perceived as whining (no offense).

/me notes that I agree on your points though, but that I consider the Era of Originality to be a thing of the past

Doing a variant skin within the parameters set by an existing UI isn't a sign of lack of creativity on the part of the skinner.

Ditto FIrestorm!

Making other color vatiations is a bonnus to users from the skinner.
Doing that he is giving more from him then the regular ones and in this particular case, I must say that all colors are gorgeous.

btw...the skins didn't recived more downloads in the second they because they were featured skins. This just hapenned today and probably this is why they will recieve even more downloads today.

To the guy from Skins Factory : What are your intentions by continuously arguing on originality of the work of Alexandrie's work? Treetog started this thread so all skinners could rejoice in her success and then you get in and keep repeating post after post that you don't see originality in her work. What's your purpose? You argued one time, isn't that enough? Why keep hammering your point? You seem to take this whole thing to a personal level and I find it sad because I believe its useless to argue on such point in a community driven by passion and respect of each other.

Flipnet: so yet you ask me a question which invites me to bring it up again (which i'm won't). So let me get this straight, according to you it's wrong to speak my mind and disagree with something or someone or add rebuttles to my original statements because this place is a community driven by passion and respect of one another? Well unless this site changes it's name to wintopia.com i'll keep adding my distastes for things that urk me and my accolades for things that turn me on. And if you cant see passion in what i'm arguing about the you had no reason to type your inane paragraph. You seem to me like some bandwagoner who has no valid point but wants to get involved. Read my posts again. This is about passion. Otherwise i would have kept my trap shut and went about my business. Hey , you're not Organian are you?

Johanne: All your work is beautifully crafted and deserves all the accolades it receives. I don't think your originality can be questioned when you look at your work as an entire collection, and not singling out specific pieces.
Congratulations on the new download record, if anyone deserves it, YOU do.

Well Jesh, it feels like you have a lot of anger inside and I personaly believe you have an attitude problem. Why do you see confrontation everytime someone says he doesn't agree with *your* opinion? You jump in and get ready to fight. Why? I don't want to argue for ever on this topic since it's obviously non-productive in the present case and many other skinners have presented arguments loud and clear. But my opinion is (and I'll use my "freedom of speech" here, as you said earlier) that if you drive your business and personnal relations the way you do here, my! I complain them!
