Continuing a Download

Are we supposed to be able to stop/cancel a DL and start where we left off the next time we start the DL?? If we are it isn't working for me. Any ideas??

No that only works with after-market products like CNET Download Manager and things like that. As far as I can recall the windows default downloading program doesn't come with a resume option...YET. Maybe they will look into that during the development of Windows Longhorn...

That WOULD be NICE! I was trying to DL the new beta of The Political Machine before I have to leave for work. The transfer rate has slowed so much that I have to stop it and start all over the next time I get a chance.

Yeah I have that problem too sometimes, but you can leave it downloading overnight if need be and it would be fine, just enable pop up blocker and security settings to be safe and leave the comp online downloadin it from like 12-5 or somethin like that, that's what i usually do for really big files.

Since you mentioned Political Machine, I'm wondering if you're using SDC to download that. There is a setting in SDC..... Tools > Settings > Connection tab > Internet Settings > General tab > Download Settings > Resume partially downloaded files.

Internet Download Manager is a tool for increasing download speeds and for resuming, scheduling, and organizing downloads. The program will resume unfinished downloads due to lost connections, network problems, or unexpected power outages. Internet Download Manager can connect to the Internet at a set time, download the files you want, disconnect, or shut down your computer when it's done. It supports FTP, HTTP, and SHTTP protocols, MP3 audio files, and MPEG video content processing. The program integrates seamlessly into Microsoft Internet Explorer, Netscape, AOL, Opera, Mozilla, and all other popular browsers to automatically handle your downloads.

Version 4.01 adds an enhanced download engine, a unique integration feature for all the latest browsers, a revised Download All feature, and other improvements and features.

I hope this helps you out

looks like its on stardocks end. but for future reference, if you have msn explorer installed (some machines do by default) it will have a download manager similar to the others described. you could load that up whenever you know you're gonna be away with a long download going.
