Proposed (Optional) Victory Condition

I propose the addition of an optional victory condition which could be set in the game settings.  The condition is the following:

If one team owns 65% or more of the non-dead asteroid planets on the map, that team is declared the winner and the game ends.

The rationale is that if one team has at least 65% of the map, the most the other team could have would be 35% of the map in which case a comeback win is very improbable.  This victory condition would forcibly end games once the outcome has been clearly decided, and it would prevent sore losers (and bugged games where all of the losing players have quit but the game doesn't register it) from dragging out "dead games" (which are probably lagging) for extended periods of time.

Thoughts?

End of quote

Quick question out of curiosity: how often does that sort of thing happen?

Too often, unfortunately.  For example, in a 5v5 game most of the players on the losing team will realize that their team cannot win the game and then call it "gg" and quit.  But 1 or 2 people on the losing team will insist that it isn't oven (in spite of having lost 3-4 allies) and will drag things out for another half-an-hour before finally relenting.  What sucks is that at these late points in the game it's liable to be lagging, it's now boring, and some of the players might want to start a new game.

I did that for a while, and then realized that it made people mad, so I stopped...

There's an alternative solution to that, just quit off the team that won.

Many people do do that.  I prefer not to do it though because I think it kind of rewards the guy who's refusing to quit.

This would also be very helpful for single-player gamers fighting against the AI, giving them a way to obtain "honourable" victory once they have achieved thorough domination.  I don't think you'd need to make an exception for dead asteroids.  They're sufficiently rare as to not be an overwhelming factor either way, and still represent a tactical asset.

This would make a great victory condition for Rebellion.  I believe I suggested something similar in my big suggestion thread a while back.
