Installing WindowsBlinds 4.2(b126) disables Windows XP themes

After installing WindowsBlinds, I cannot revert to my original Windows XP themes. Selecting 'Windows XP Style' in the Display Properties dialog does absolutely nothing: the 'Apply' button remains disabled and I cannot choose any of the Luna styles. Since reboot my theme has remained 'Windows Classic style' and although I can still apply WindowsBlinds skins, they are not applied in their entirety. There is always some element(s) of the skin that is not applied or is not applied as it was meant to be.

I uninstalled WindowsBlinds and tried to set the theme back to the default Luna style but the only option available to me in the Display Properties dialog is 'Windows Classic style' and nothing else. Attempts to load the theme by the 'Luna.theme' or 'luna.msstyle' files in Windows\Resources\Themes only produced errors stating that the theme could not be loaded because the themes service was not running. However, the themes service is running and is set to 'Automatic' startup. Restarting the theme service has no effect and I am still unable to load the default Windows XP themes.

If anyone has any suggestions as to what I can do resolve this issue, I would greatly appreciate it.

WB does not remove the Windows XP theme on install.  It never has done & never will do.

Most likely your file has become corrupted.

Suggest the following:

1 - Try System Restore

- or -

2 - Use XP installation disc to do a repair of Windows (not from Recovery Console)

As Neil (WB Developer) indicated, WindowBlinds does not mess with the "Themes" service. If you have installed other "Style" applications, they may be at fault. There are some out there that hack the "uxtheme" file.

Note - you can also try running the following at a command prompt to have windows automatically attempt to repair a protected file that has been corrupted: sfc /scannow

This may or may not fix the issue with the 'themes' service.

Its not a corrupted file just reenable the themes service
Click Start>Run... type in "Net start themes" w/o quotes and it should reenable

Just a thought here ... when 4.6 is the latest for the 4x series , what are they doing using 4.2?
