Compact start menu help

I've noticed that people with 'compact start menus' have these slender start menus with no text beside the 'my computer' icons and such, and it looks a lot neater. However, when I switch to compact start menu..nothing happens, just wondering if anyone can help. I have windowblinds 4.0 build 100 do I need to update?

Yes Please. I would also like to know. I have had that kind on some skins but they "expanded" suddenly and I don't understand why?

This may have something to do with the screen resolution the skin was designed under. In other words, if the skinner was using 1024x768, then maybe the skins compact menu will only be displayed correctly under 1024x768. Using another resolution may expand the start menu. (just a guess). Try changing your res. If that doesn't work, you can manually change the size of the User pane in skin studio. This will compact the right and left planes (prog list and places list). The current WB version is 4.20.017. However, I believe your version supports this.

I thought all 4 versions supported this. It is just resizing the right hand pane of the start menu. the normal windows engine supports this. If the version didn't support it and you tried to use a compact menu it would not look good at all. It would probably all streched and ugly since the graphics are made for the thin side.Have you made sure you are using the compact sub style if it is a substyle?
