The Implications of Kinect
Most people think of Kinect as part of Microsoft gameware, and they’re correct.
The implications of Kinect are however, HUGE.
This is an entirely new way of interacting with an OS. You remember the cool scene from “Minority Report”?
Well, now you don’t need the glove. You’ve got a 3D represented on a 2D screen with a 3D image.
Now add this to the mix: At MIT, researchers have produced holographic video at 30 frames/sec. which is quite impressive.
Appropriately, they chose to demo “Princess Leia”. The holovid is on the left:
OK, so holographic phones aren’t that far away, and from there to the Holodeck? How long?

Imagine all the possible ways you will be able to interact with your OS.
If you have a baby in your home, you will have 3D in 3D imaging available anywhere you go through your portable phone.
Your home will detect and identify an intruder interfacing immediately with Law Enforcement computers. A mask will do nothing, as the imaging will be ultrasonic, the same way you can see your fetus’s heart action and 3D facial expressions while inside your/your partner’s abdomen.

Finally? Imagine WinCustomize 2020 and 2030 and what “skinning” might turn into. Perhaps whole virtual environments? A new home décor every week or so?
Docks that are virtual file cabinets you can riffle through (at the end of the vid – this was filmed in 1994)?

Things could get really interesting!
People might actually start exercising for their health (insert shameless plug for health here)
