How to play my mod

Clueless modding noob alert

OK, so I unhide the AppData folder and find the "Mods - 1.191" directory.  Download the 1.191 reference files someone helpfully uploaded to FilePlanet.  Create a "01 - First Mod" subdirectory under Mods - 1.191.  Create a  "GameInfo" subdirector under "01- First Mod".  Copy the entity files into "GameInfo".  Hack the entity files.  Load the game.  Go to Options / Mods.  "01- First Mod" is listed as an available mod.  Click on enable mod.  Lists a checksum and game does NOT crash (as it did when I tried to enable a mod based on reference files for an earlier version of the game).  I click on the "load mod on startup" button.  It lights up green.  Exit game.  Restart game.  Create a new game.  The hacked values do not show up - the original values remain.

What am I missing?  Do I need to create all the other directories under "01- First Mod" (such as mesh) and copy all those files into their respective subdirectories even though I am not making any changes to those files?

Much thanks for any suggestions.

Not enough info. Did you rename them? Did you add something that is not compatible with that entity type? What did you change? Don't know otherwise. Edit: I didn't notice the version. Ya they are right if you don't have the expansions I suggest getting them.

You need to reenable the mod with each startup.

Simple error...

You are playing 1.191 right?

For the original Sins (no expansions) you need the comlplete set of reference files in the mod. The expansions started using manifests so the expansion mods only need the files you change.

Eh, if you want to mod sins I would drop 10 bucks and get Entrenchment. Modding vanilla sins isn't worth it my opinion when you consider timed save and modability being > 10 dollars...

Thanks for all responses.

I did not change file names or any text.  Simply changed numerical values.  Did not add or remove digits, so file size exactly the same.  Just changed 7 or 8 or 9 to 1 and 1 or 2 or 3 to 9.  I am guessing the problem is that I did not copy all the various subfolders and files into the 01 - First Mod directory.

I have Trinity.  I will mod Entrenchment instead of vanilla.  As with everything involving computers, any tiny difference from what the machine expects lead to failure.  Which is a good thing.  When the machines get to the point where they can figure out what we meant and do something different than what we specifically told them to do, we are going to be superceded.  So thank goodness that computers are still so literal.

Unless you do something that make the computer go "WHAAAAAAA!?!?!?!" Then you get a mini-dump. :D

Thanks for the suggestion to move to Entrenchment.  Got the mod to work the first time.
