TabLaunchpad and ControlCenter won't launch :(

I have the ODNT and WinCustomize subscriptions... and have pretty much everything stardock related AFAIK, but when I try to launch either TabLaunchpad or ControlCenter it says "Please make sure that the Object Desktop Common files are installed".

anyone have any idea why?

These are the only two programs that won't launch and it's a bit annoying

I wasn't asking for that reason....do you have C:\Program Files\Common Files\Stardock showing?

Sorry.

Yes, it is there.

These are all the files in the directory.

INSTALL.LOG
MCPCore.dll
MCPStub.dll
ODCommon.dll
ODImg.dll
ODInfo.dll
ODUtils.dll
ODZip.dll
sdmcp.exe

You'll have to e-mail Pat to fix the studder problem : mailto:[email protected]

Now, as for the other 'problem', what version of Stardock Central do you have installed and are you using the 'pre-release' versions of the software? (you'll see that option available in SDC)

Stardock Central Version 1.32.275 Build 49

I downloaded it yesterday from the link after pruchasing Object Desktop online.

No, I am not viewing or have installed any pre-releases.

That's the correct version. Check to show 'Pre-release Versions' and then install any apps. that you already have installed. Do not un-install anything, just install right over them. When you enable the 'Show Pre-Release Versions' it will ask if you want to 'Archive' (in case you want to roll back)...check 'Yes'

OK. I have installed all beta or alpha releases for currently installed software.

However there was not an 'a' or 'b' update for controlcentre ot tab launchpad. Anyways, I rebooted and then tried both controlcentre and Tab Launchpad - both are still crashing, HOWEVER the crash sequence is now 'smaller'.

Now I simply get the error message 'Please make sure the the Object Desktop Common Files are installed'.

Before the 'a' and 'b' software upgrade I would also get the message ‘access violation at address 0049852D in module ctlcenter.exe’ BEFORE the 'Please make sure the the Object Desktop Common Files are installed' error message.

Now the access violation message does not appear.

I'll have to see what I can find on the Control Center....that's what's crashing both. Tab Launchpad works flawlessly on it's own. I don't use CC, but I'll check the Newsgroups. In the interium...do without it.

My guess is 'Test' is the same as 'Bump'......

I would stay away from Control Center...I had it installed ages ago and it was flakey then and by the comments of late on the Newsgroups, it hasn't improved much. You should be able to run Tab Launcher with no problems (1.13[b].002). Anything else that you might want to do with CC can be handled by other Stardock apps. Just try different ones and I think you'll get what you want without using CC.

Wrong - hehe - I was checking to see if my message tripling was fixed - which it is

I actually have not ever run Control Center - was just a bit miffed that it would not even start up - hence my post.

Tab Launcher still crashes with the same error message (listed above)as Control Center.

I am going to install the same software on my notebook as see what happens.

...

As far as CC goes....trust me...you're not missing a thing. Tab Launcher is another story and quite useful. Try re-installing Stardock Central right over the one you have and see if that corrects it. Make sure the TL version is 1.13[b].002. If it doesn't fix it let me know....in all my time with this software, I've never had a problem with TL itself....so the problem lays elsewhere.

OK. Will give it a go.

I also installed Stardock Central and then Tab Launcher on my notebook to see what would happen.

No problems running Tab Launcher at all - OS on notebook is XP Pro as well.

Anywho, will try what you suggested for my main pc.

OK.

This is what I have done on my desktop (main) pc.

Uninstalled everything, including Stardock Central.

Deleted all relevant remaining folders & files.

Deleted all files from C:\Program Files\Common Files\Stardock except for MCPStub.dll (could not for the life of me find the service to stop or the running process to close to unlock this file).

Re-installed Stardock Central (not viewing alpha & beta pre-releases).

Downloaded and installed Tab Launcher, tested program, program ran perfectly.

Installed virtually rest of available programs.

Ran Control Center, tested, encountered 2 access violation errors, but program then opened and ran perfectly.

I then ran Stardock Central and viewed alpha & beta pre-releases.

I installed Tab Launcher 1.13[b].002, tested program, program ran perfectly.

Ran Control Center again, tested program, program then opened and ran perfectly without any error messages.

Hope this may help for any further problems re Control Center and Tab Launcher if encountered by anyone else.
