Elemental “Design a Quest” Contest Winner!

A big congrats goes out to Tydorius for winning the Elemental “Design a Quest” contest!  We had a ton of fantastic entries, but ultimately the ‘Demon Lord’ quest reigned supreme by popular vote.

“There are a lot of things this quest does right. It has a cool backstory, it fits into the theme of the ruined world and allows the player to naturally find and discover the quest. I really like that the first step of the quest is largely indistinguishable from more basic quests, hinting that even the most mundane tasks can turn into something epic.”

The quest will be included in Fallen Enchantress, and Tydorius will also enjoy some other great prizes!

good choice on quest to implement tho others were good too but i think this one has that added flavor of spawning a new faction which always puts in a twist to the game. not to mention a demon faction you know derek will turn their land influence into hell ground lol! as long as the game keep movign in the right direction in the long run we can add all sorts of goodies to it. id like to see a core game faction of undead with some witches and vampires. a core angel faction too would be awsome as well. anyways im going off in a tangent. congrats to the winner! the quest was a keeper!

End of kenata's quote

That's the exact reason I made it the way it is. I wanted npc's to be able to hit a quest location and cause things to happen, I wanted mini factions to be tied to quest lines and spawnable by quests, I wanted people to be able to set quests to have different consequences for failing, not just a "You're dead" or a "choose your fate menu" deal. And the last bit was that I wanted a somewhat interior ruins tileset for tactical battles. :D

That and maybe they'll make a lot more demonic options for summons. If this is a DnD style world with the sovereigns and adventurers and such, undead and demon armies should be viable. Not to say that mods don't make them that way. <3 But I felt the vanilla game needed it.

I was hoping it'd be added into EWoM along with EFE, so I could use the new mechanisms in my mod, but hopefully once they add the scripting it'll still be possible. ^^

>.> I've never won anything in my life. Kinda excited. That and I'm going to play around on Tropico 3 in a bit. <3

I feel the same way. Dark Rising has kind of the same deal, where it starts out as a normal quest, but slowly begins effects the larger world as you progress through it. I think you are right about this larger consequence of failure too. I think Dark Rising would be much better if I could have some fail condition such that the Dragon actually awakens and starts a new faction bent on destroying the world.

I am fairly certain that scripting is at least 6 months off if not 12, but I agree that one of the cool parts about your quest is that it will require certain changes that should allow modders to make even crazier quests than these.

Congrats!

Nice job and congrats!

Hope they include the other finalists quests as well as they deserve to be in the game as well.

yeah i really like the idea of a new faction spawning.  especially if its uber powerful.  this would be the kind of thing in which all existing factions would have to stop fighting and work together to defeat. very awesome stuff!

XD

I just realized that I messed up the address I sent them for shipping. I forgot to put my apartment number on it. I just moved here and keep forgetting that I'm in an apartment now. I normally get my mail anyway, but now I'm worried.

But thanks for all the congrats!

Well, my best luck for you. =)  But hopefully, if someone else isn't responsible and gives it to you, Stardock may (maybe) might have liked your quest so much that they'll send you another copy.  At least as long as the prize wasn't too expensive...

Anyway, hopefully you still will get your original parcel/prize. =)

Best regards,
Steven.
