Problem with Skin Studio Professional

I installed Skin Studio Professional last night to see if I could import some msstyle themes and it keeps crashing on me. When I try to open a file I get an error saying "External exception C000001D" then when I click ok, I get a second error message saying "Access violation at address 0050434A in module "sknstdio.exe". Write of address 0000024C." After that the program locks up completely and can only be shut down from task manager. I am using WindowsXP with all service patches installed and this is the latest version of Skin Studio Professional downloaded and installed via Stardock Central. Any suggestion on what is causing this and how to fix it?

I keep on having trouble with it too. Now I'm scared to use it. I can't use the preview screen, and when I'm in the middle of something, a box pops up that says "Canvas does not allow drawing" abot ten times and the my computer freezes. Is it just because I'm using Windows 98 Second Edition?(My boot says Windows 98 At Your Service )

Yes, I do have StyleXP installed because I have had so many stability problems with WindowBlinds in the past; but it wasn't enabled at the time. Thought I'd give WindowBlinds another go and see if some of the issues had been resolved; that's why I was trying to import some of my XP themes. Is that the problem and will uninstalling StyleXP fix it, do you think?

I am not sure, but I have been experiencing problems with windowblinds and I think it might be a patched uxtheme file (which is all that stylexp is) because of the new ability of windowblinds to automatically convert a msstyle to windowblind.

Anyway I suggest that you never have the 2 concurrently on the system as it opens the door to possible problems

Well, I don't think it's the StyleXP. I uninstalled it and Skin Studio both, and rebooted and reinstalled Skin Studio. Even with StyleXP completely gone from the system, I got the same error message. >

Oh, well, back to the drawing board...

StyleXP may have corrupted your system. That is why I never use it. I use Windowblinds/Object Desktop and I haven't had a problem with it in 1-1/2 years. I suggest you back up important files, wipe your hard drive and start anew. And, don't install StyleXP. You'll be happy computing again.
