I can only play as humans why?

I just got the ult version of this game and for some reason i cant play any other race than humans is there somthing im missing ? oh and it was a digital dl from impulse not a cd so im sure i dont have to register it or at least i think im sure. If anyone can help me out it would be nice.

Make sure you don't have a scenario selected in the new game setup.
