ObjectBar Issues

Which forum to put this in? Hmmm…oh well, here goes nothin’….

Just some notes on ObjectBar:

1. If I configure OB to launch at startup (using the General Settings dialog), then my username doesn’t display. Instead, I get the placeholder %username% displayed instead. If I add a shortcut to OB in the Startup menu, this does not occur.
2. Microsoft OfficeXP (Office 10) apps don’t allow their menus to be placed in the Replacement Menu section, but they do keep their in-app menus visible even if OB is set to hide replaceable menus. That’s how it’s supposed to work, isn’t it?
3. Disappointingly, Stardock’s own SkinStudio Pro doesn’t put its menu in the OB replaceable menu section, nor does it keep its own menu displayed in the app. I’ve got to believe this is broken in the current version.
4. Being the stubborn guy I am, I want my Adobe apps skinned and “objected”. I use Adobe video and image production apps almost exclusively, so this is a big deal for me. OB will let the new Adobe XP-only apps that I own (Encore DVD and Premiere Pro) put their menus in the replaceable menu section right at app loading time and hide them appropriately in the app itself. The multi-OS aware Adobe apps that I have (Photoshop 7.0.1 and After Effects 6.0 Pro) don’t do this until the app is loaded, minimized to the taskbar (or ObjectDock) and then restored. If I switch to either Encore or Premiere and then back, then that also fixes the menu issue in PS or AE. The point is that I have to switch away from either AE or PS and back again to get the replaceable menu feature of OB to work.

Thoughts?

my problem might have been passed over before but i'm going to exercise this nice new subscription and put my question up here with yours.. i'm having object bar issues as well.

some applications do not work properly with object bar up. most notably, Roxio6 simply crashes if i try to load one of its programs up under object bar. some applications, like indesign, have visual problems (though i had, until now, attributed that to indesign's infancy). but one program has given me problems that really suprised me. Stardock Central doesn't work under object bar. it just crashes. so, i fugre something's gotta be wrong. any ideas what might be causing this?

i'm using a macosx style object bar made by xero, as well as his windowblind's 'ice' theme, and i also use object dock though i've never noticed any problems with that program. my home and work systems are both athlon's, though i have this problem on my p4 laptop as well. 256mg radeon video and 512mg ram. thaanks -- -

Well, I can solve _your_ problem. Go to ObjectBar's General Options and under the Extra Feature Options tab click on the "Exclusions" button and add Roxio, InDesign and Stardock Central. Your crashes will stop.

BTW, SkinStudio Pro, Nero 5, Cool 3D Production Studio, Wondertouch's particleIllusion 3 and PowerQuest DriveImage 7 all need to be excluded too. (List subject to change).

wow, so that was it. thanks jeff. i'd excluded some things before but never thought i'd have the problem with stardock's own.

i wish i could help you with your problems.. i know theres no way around Office hiding its menu's, its just the way the programs are built. for example, if you've skinned icons for your desktop and my computer (in the load or save as dialog boxes), they will show up for any problem except in office programs. they must be rooted a different way.

as for adobe, i have that problem as well with photoshop. i've jsut gotten used to click on my desktop, then back on the photoshop window after its loaded.

indesign seems to have a problem with windowblinds.
