DesktopX Browse...SaveAs... Does nothing?

So I apply a DesktopX theme I like, then I want to customise it, then I want to SaveAs - nothing happens. Can't browse for anything either. At least the skin saves under the current user name, but what is supposed to happen?

I thought I had some kind of extended versions what with an Object Desktop subscription?

Browsing through the online help questions as a first time user makes UGLY reading don't you think? >

It should work, but don't expect help if the answer is already answered. As I haven't seen anything of this sort I will try to help.

When you click on the theme save as option does nothing show up?

Get to the right click menu and try it fron there. If you get the desktopx menu when you right click normally on the desktop its in the desktopx menu. otherwise right click on the icon in the system tray. The save as option should bring up a window that looks like the standard save as window. Just type in a name and save it.

I also found that sometimes after you save it desktopx becomes a little buggy and you have to restart it.

Theme can only be saved thru DX Config...

Hardly the biggest problem in the world, so formal apology for wading in (I'm impressed with this whole setup, and compared to working with basic Windows a few minor newbee ailments don't compare!)

As an update - I've found 3 places to save the theme from - right-click the DX tray icon, SaveAs in DX Settings, and SaveAs from the DX Settings Control Menu. Unfortunately I don't get a save as window. What I notice is that it seems to save by default to the Theme folder. I can just duplicate this as a workaround I guess?

Thanks for responding, and I'll take some time to look through the history.

Travis...I didn't know what version he had and except for the last update, you could only do it thru config. It was just easier to point him to DX config......Ok..Ok...you caught me in a lazy moment

Guys,
From everything I've read and tried, I can't find the solution to getting a 'Save as' window allowing me to name a theme and save as a .dxtheme file.

I am a subscribed Object Desktop user, so I don't need the developer version of DesktopX to save a theme do I?

Really confused - I can't even browse for desktop wallpaper files. All other OD progs bring up file dialogs, but DesktopX refuses.

Any further ideas? - thanks M

Yeah...going thru SDC, un-install DX2 and re-boot. Re-install DX2 and try it again.

More fun.

Deinstalled everything. Installed SDC. Installed Object Bar. Worked like a dream, until I installed DesktopX - no task bar icons on Object Bar. Can't save a damn thing.

Given that I'm globally responsible for trading software performance tuning and system designer for automated testing systems for a bank in Canary Wharf, I think I can spot the odd bug or two.

Has anyone got DesktopX to work on Win98SE? Still, everything but Saving seems to work, but its blown ObjectBar away.

Win98SE...hmmmmm....give me a minute to look something up, but the first thing you need to do is 'Disable' IconX.

98SE should work with all, but I'm told there's an option in Object Bar that you need to set to synchronize the Taskbar with your WindowBlinds skin. . I have found that when using DX2, OB and Wb all at once that the skins themselves can cause problems. Singularly, they work..together, they're in the crapper. Might want to try different themes and see if it makes any difference. I don't think re-installing anything is going to help anymore then it has (or hasn't)....let me know.

ML2004... This is the only method I have of editing the last line in your post, which was a bit over the top. I understand your frustration, but watch the language, please.

So, uninstall IconX, the one thing that makes this look half-decent? Supports Win98 does it?

I still haven't got an answer as to what should happen on 'save as' - is this supposed to work?

I'm bored now. I've spent two weeks trying to get anything to work - the main point of this was to set up a desktop for my daughter, but it seems I can't expect anything to work, especially as uninstalling everything leaves everything running the next time I log on. How the F do you get rid of the Keyboard Launchpad? In fact its the only thing that works OK, I just don't want any of this now. Looks like an OS rebuild job and a new years resolution to stay away from cowboys. Reading the posts, the lead developer can't repsond at the minute because he's 'taking a college degree'. How old are this lot? And worse still, nobody is ever going to read this until they've bought the software.

I've reinstalled Outlook Express just to get on to the newsgroups, to find nobody responds - talk about a company hiding behind a wall.
Who coordinates the component developers? It seems to me they're all independent and don't bother to see if what they build works on anything or with anything else. Why can't I download a previous non-beta build of DX?

Tell me is this fair? Christ, even the smiley collection on the right doesn't have a 'murdered skewered smiley'.

just a short note. why would you want someone who doesn't own the software to help you?

And yrag will help if you want him too.
