A LOT of (probably very obvious) Beginners Questions

I purchased OD a few weeks back and have been sort of learning by trial and error. I've tried reaading the product manuals, but I can't seem to locate answers to the issues I am experiencing. So, If anyone out there could lend a hand, or offer insight to the following questions, I would be so very thankful:

- When I run any one of the products from my hard drive, it remains in "trial mode" and will not allow me to use all of the features. This happens even after updating and re-registering the software through Stardock Central.

- Sometimes (but not all the time) when I run the programs directly from StarCen, they also run as if in trial version despite re-registering, updating, etc

- When I download a skin through StarCen and click "apply," I am more often than not informed that I am running the (yes! now what do you think I'm going to say...?) "trial" version.

- When I download a (Windowblinds) skin (EX: Sterile2) and install it (at least that is what I think I am doing by double clicking it), My task bar and buttons change, but all of the objects mentioned in the description do not get installed and remain zipped in the following file:
C:\Program Files\Stardock\Object Desktop\WindowBlinds\Sterile2
How do I find/install/know where these things go? I was always under the impression that ObjectZip would do this for me automatically.

- What is the difference between the Windowblinds command and the "wbload.exe" command?

- When I am logged into the StarCen browser and go to the software tab, DesktopX is NEVER there even though it IS a component of Object desktop. I have been using the downloaded public version, but there again, I do not have full access to all of the features.

- When I am logged into StarCen and go to the software tab, the browser will inform me of product updates, and I promptly update. However, it seems as if I am continually updating the same ones over and over again. For example, if Windows FX is updated in the morning and I turn off my computer and turn it back on again in the evening, it prompts me to update it again.

- Finally, no matter how oftern I update and/or register my products, after updating them I still get zapped with advertisements trying to get me to purchase Object Desktop -- the product I have paid for, registered and own. This happens even when I am working from within the StarCen browser where I have (at least I hope I have) just updated those very same programs.

Anyhow, I know this is an awful lot of questions, and I am sure that many of them are probably very obvious. However, for as much as I like computer eye-candy and skinning, I really don't have the slightest clue about computers and software. If someone would please be so kind and help me out, I would most appreciate it. Thank you very much in advance.

Ixchel

PS - Does anybody out there know whether or not it is possible for me to purchase the CD version of the full/enhanced program (for a minimal fee) even in addition to my Object Desktop network account?
- What does "ShellStyles Support" mean?

Have you tried to contact Stardock support ?

I always get that stupid auto reply and nothing else.

But I have different problems.

I haven't had enough coffee yet, not awake.......but here's a few thoughts.......

It sounds like you installed the registered versions without uninstalling the shareware first.  Try removing all the programs, and starting over.

In SDC, click the VIEW on the menu bar, and select Show/Hide Applications. You may have DX hidden.

Yes, I'm fairly certain you can purchase the CD version of the programs.

ShellStyles Support, allows the Task Panel in Windows to be skinned (XP only), along with other things such as the shutdown/logoff dialog.

Koasati is correct.  It sounds like you have at some time installed the shareware versions.  Please uninstall all the components in Stardock Central then reboot.  Make sure that your serial number is in the Object Desktop tab of Stardock Central registration screen and make sure that your end date is showing.  Go to the Object Desktop tab and install the enhanced versions of the software.  Reboot.

Are you viewing all the components?  There is a "more" button that will show all of them, and to see the betas, you need to check the "show pre-released" check box in the lower left side of SDC.

You can get a CD of Object Desktop for a shipping/handling charge (which I think is $5 in the US).  Please contact [email protected] for more information about that.

I too have experienced the 'update popup' problem. It works a whole lot better if you just turn that off and update software thru the main page.It will correctly show that software has been updated and stop asking you too update the same stuff over and over.

I'm new to this too, but I have bought object desktop also and I kept getting the shareware versions, even though SC was registered. I found that if you open SC then go to the Software tab, then click on Object Desktop, then the program, (such as Themes Manager), just so it is highlighted. Then look at the bottom of the Browser at Registration Info and click on it. It will bring up a new window. Make sure Object Desktop Subscription is visible in the first box near application. Make sure your name and serial number is listed. If not then that is the problem. I had trouble until I fiqured I needed to put my serial number there, then all the other programs suddenly popped up with install and or/ update.

They need a manual with this program! I got it to work with trial and error and even figuring out where I should put downloaded items was tricky!
