New Player detecting wackiness in Starship Creator

I don't know whether this is a bug or not, so i decided to post here asking first. By all means please move this to the bugs thread if you think it belongs there.

So I just bought the Hard copy version of the Ultimate Edition (updated it via Impulse) and kicked out the Dark Lords Campaign. I've noticed two things with the ship yard ship designer.

Firstly, whenever I click 'upgrade' to modify an existing design, all the modules - i.e. everything except the hull and the 'extras' are not on the model. This is frustrating, especially if all I wanted to do was move a component a couple of notches. This happens on both my designs and core designs.

Secondly - I just got myself the tech Space Militarisation and instantly went to look at all my new goodies. I wasn't a huge fan of the core designs - Defender, Starfury and Phoenix, so I went to design my own. When I'd finished I compared its stats to that of the core designs and found that my design cost 10bc more cost more support but was otherwise identical stat wise. Not only that but two of the core designs are sporting a weapon I don't have access to and (at least) one has two sensors and a weapon, something which I can't support on my identically sized hull. (The maximum sized hull I have open to me is small and I haven't researched any armour technologies yet.

Because of the first problem its impossible to load up the core designs and check what features they sport.

So, what gives?

1: Go to Interface in the options menu and de-select the box that says "Remove all functional components when upgrading a ship design" (or something like that). That should take care of it.

2: The core designs have a number of weapons and other components that exist only as "jewelry", but don't actually function. While it may look like the core ships are more advanced, they are actually pretty bad against most anything else. Space Militarisation won't really let you build good ships anyway, you'll need to research better weapons.

Also, while this is just my opinion, I consider the AI autodesigner seriously flawed and usually just shut it off (also an option), as you can't set a weapons/defense ratio or focus on engines or other 'noncombat' components.

(off-topic) The last is a particular pet peeve of mine as, if there is one area where the AI opponent fails completely in designing ships, it's ignoring engines. Hence one advantage I will almost always have over the AI, if nothing else, is speed.

Hope all this helps. By the way, there are certain issues with playing the Dread Lords campaign off the Twilight expansion; you may want to play it with the original game instead.

Thanks, I was hoping there'd be an option to do as such,

What kind of problems should I keep an eye out for as I don't think I can run the game via any other way than the Main game window. Unlike Sins it doesn't give me the option to load a specific 'chapter.'
