Noob Question

I just recently found out about this game and I'm extremely excited to go buy it. But first I have a couple of questions.

1. I read all the reviews on IGN and Gamespot on all 3 games, and I didn't come across what the combat looks like. Is it played out in a battle that you can watch or is it more of a number crunch represented on a screen?

2. I know there are 2 expansions, but if I played the last one released, twilight of arnor, in a sandbox mode, would I get all the previous features from the first two games or are those features reserved just for the separate games.

Thanks in advance

1. The battles between ships/fleets can be watched and tracked (as in, you can see what damage is being dealt to each side as the other attacks), but the invasion battles are a simple animation screen that is based more on your 'number-crunch' representation.

2. Each expansion builds on the previous, with some things added and some things nerfed or enhanced. I can't think of anything that DL has that the expansions don't have, but some things change with each expansion (like economics, or the equations that determine the winner in a space battle, espionage abilities, trade, etc.)

I have another quick question. I'm using Windows 7 64 bit operating system, and was wondering if this game runs well on  windows 7?

So if I was to play a sandbox game, would you suggest I play Twilight of the Arnor?

I would definitely recommend buying Twilight above the other versions; however if you happen to buy a pack that also includes the original, it may be worth playing Dark Avatar / Dread Lords first. That way you get familiar with the easiest version (no unique technologies per race, slightly easier economy); once you've had your share of DA/DL you can move on to Twilight and enjoy the added functionality almost as a second game.

Edit: personally I have no idea about Windows 7 as I'm running Vista. Hopefully someone else can answer; if not, doesn't it say on Impulse whether GalCiv II runs under Windows 7?

Sorry, can't help you with that as I'm running XP, but I just wanted to elaborate on Noctilucus' comment in reply #4.  As it happens, I bought Gal Civ II Ultimate edition on CD, and I can play all three games (just select the correct launcher icon).  So the option is open if it does interest you.

The game runs great for me on Windows 7 64-bit. I only had one problem that was resolved by updating DirectX 9.
