Mimimise at Startup

Hi There.

Just purchased me a fresh WB7 today, looks and plays great and got a few nice skins on random at startup.

But curious though if there is a mimimise at startup option as when my computer boots, i noticed a large window in the middle of my screen as windowblinds loads which i would rather it loaded silently and sat patiently in my system tray waiting for when i need to use it and not shoved in my face to mimimise everytime it boots up.

Thanks :)

It shouldn't be doing that. When I boot up, I don't see that WB is running at all (beside the fact that I have a skin applied).

Did you have the trial version installed before you purchased? If so, it's important to uninstall that before installing the full version.

No Tim, you shouldn't be doing that...lol. And neither should WB.

It sounds like when you first installed WB, upon reboot, you get the WB configuration window, normal. But it should only happen the first reboot after install, and on each subsequent update.

Yeah it went away but now i got all sorts of other issues :( next up, i click random skins and no random skins appear, i then notice WB now doesn't load up into the system tray at all even though the "show wb in system tray for access to settings" is ticked, i basically don't see it load at all, thus the wallpaper isn't working either .... seems to be a real lack of "on/off" style options for such a powerful program?

i guess i should do seperate posts, but i got toolbars moving around with each skin too, not sure if i'm blaming the different skin makers or not, those toolbars are bad enough to get into place let alone doing it every few boots..... i need to reboot now so this is an incomplete post for now.

Update and BUMP!

I'm still having issues after months and have SLIGHTLY more info.

I weeded out skins i don't want to use, mostly just the standard ones that use different colours so i only have the more "fancier" skins.

WB will NOT load up everytime with my system, but it does ... occasionally.

If i does load, it chooses to work, and i get a fancy skin, i see the icon in the system tray for that "easy" access. The skin is one of the selected "random skin at bootup"

If it decides not to load, i seem to just get some Aero "colour" theme, that is NOT in my random list.

I can't seem to find an entry in the "currentversion->run" in registry, or start menu and wonder why this is working some boots and not others. Would be happy to do a full clean install, remove everything, but then i can't find how it is even starting and NO program i've ever seen will remove completely without some effort to remove trails behind that may well be the cause?

I use Windows 7 Ultimate - all original, patched up, video drivers up to date.

Here's something that might help the uninstall. Go to http://www.revouninstaller.com/ Download the uninstaller. Revo will clean out any left over files from any program you have but be careful. Sometimes it cleans too deep and may take out files other programs use. I found this to be particularly true with photoshop. After the uninstall, re-install windowblinds and see if that helps.

Hi

OK, i run that uninstaller, and yeah i let it rip through my registry and HDD for any left over files and i examined where it wanted to remove things and allowed it all as it all seemed legit.

I loaded up impulse and again download windowsblinds (which i think was a newer version? 7.20a BETA? was previously just 7.20)

Installed, rebooted, went through the wizard, go into settings and make a few minor adjustments. They are:

Play sounds defined by the skin (if any) switched OFF

I switch ON random skin changing and then i switch off the sleect from ALL skins and just select 3 to select from random being Cideral, Dragon and Parchment.

Reboot, it worked, i got a skin applied, next boot, i got a skin (same one, 33% chance though right). Next morning, i switched on and got a skin, it WORKS... as some other software was updating, i rebooted early on and voila .... standard aero .. reboot and windows blinds works again, but the next two boots, standard aero. And that's what i have now while typing this.

It seems completely and utterly random, windowblinds works ... when it wants to, its a boot time sequence, so i have no control over what other sotware is running at boot time on the times it does or does not work, everything remains the same as the previous boot.

I am happy to give up whatever information is required to get this darn thing to work.

When it doesn't skin too, i have to manually load wb and click apply skin, when WB DOES load, i get it in the system tray where i asked it to be.

P.S. I suspect the next reply might say that maybe an update  is interfering but i doubt is cause this has been going on for months and at the current time i would say windowblinds works about 30-40% of the time and i don't do THAT much windows or software updates on a daily basis.

Is there any case to ask for my money back. I have done as suggested, removed completely, registry and all, done a reinstall, and this thing only ocassionaly loads up randomly at times upon bootup. Since all the same programs are botting up from one day to the next, i can't see why this should happen, since noone is able to tell me how or where windowblinds inserts itself into the startup routine of the machine (maybe it doesnt and simply replaces resources) but noone seems to have this info, then i will have to formally request for my money back.

I would suggest starting a ticket with [email protected].  They will be the official way to get support for WindowBlinds.
