downloading dreams..automatically opens

When I download a dream Deskscapes opens it automatically and does not give me the chance to save it. Is there a way to keep it from doing this?

Use FireFox to download them...it will allow you to save it without installing.

but if your on win 7  might even with Vista.

you can go here

C:\Users\YOUR NAME HERE\Documents\Stardock\Dreams

and copy them to another location so you you ever have to re-install the os you will not have to re-download

yeah I know that- I have them all backed up.  I just don't want to have to open the .dream everytime I download it- it's really annoying. I'm not downloading Firefox there should be some way to change the setting in Explorer or Wincustomize.com should do something about it...

For XP, check your setting for the .dream filetype extension.  Login with full administrator privileges. Go into Windows Explorer (as opposed to Internet Explorer) tools/folder options/file types, select dream extension.  Click the "advanced button", make sure the box is checked for "Confirm open after Download" is checked.  Then after you leftclick on download it should ask you if you want to open or save the file.

I'm Vista/Win7 ignorant, don't know if there's a similar way to go about it there.  If there is, you would want to do it while running with all the admin rights etc., however you do that.

If you get it changed, make note of how you do it.  It may get changed back after an update or reinstall.

Also, I've seen this come up for Win7 elsewhere but not seen an answer for it, so if you figure it out it would be good for you to post it back here, there are at least a couple of other people who'd appreciate it.  Thanks.
