Too much detail, or not enough?

working on a model, can it be used in sins?

Did a bit of doodling on sketchup and I came up with (what I think) is an okay design for a frigate. I haven't seen any wireframes of the stock ships used in the game, so I was wondering:

Is this too much detail on the model, or not enough? I know a lot of the detail goes in with textures, but I'd like to get an opinion on how detailed to make the model.

Looks good.

If you can keep it at around 1500-2000 tri's you should be ok. That is the average poly count for a Sins frigate.

FYI

Frigates, Cruisers, and Civilian craft 1500-2000 tri's. Some Sins frigates go over 3000, but you want to keep the count as low as possible.

Cap ships average 3000-4000 tri's (biggest sins cap i seen was around 4500).

Strike craft between 500-700

structures can go as high as 7000. In the starbase's case the advent starbase is a ridiculous 12000. Again the lower the count the better.

I know this classification: (1k = 1000)

fighter - to 1k tri

frigate - 1k to 3k tri

cruiser - 3k to 5k tri

CAP - 3k to 15k tri (my self made such model and is in game)

Starbase - to 40k tri

Structure - ~20k tri
