I AM ROOOOK!!!

I almost hate to post this, because the build does so well, but here goes...

The Rook I play is a flag holding stud with DG killability at mid levels.  I guess he is simular to many Rook builds, but there are some esoteric refinements that put him above the herd.

Strategy: Never fight more than one of these DGs in a match with Rook:  Regulus, Torch Bearer, Occulus...   Any one is fine, but 2 can easily beat yer ass...  Other than that,  Use your towers as ground holders, and your shoulder attacks as your main offense.  Boulder roll as much as mana allows and slam their asses at level 9.  At level 9 you should have a tower farm in one of their portal areas, regardless of tower strength.

Favor:  There is only one favor item that a rook should take if he wants to be a super stud...  That, of course, is the Vial.  The ability to heal 33% consistantly gives you the constitution to win any battle of attrition and to save your own ass countless times.

Equipment:  (I don't mention TPs, locks etc)

Starting....  Scaled and (insert name of the 500 +5 armor here).  You should be able to last at least to level 5 and probably to level 8 on your FIRST SHOP.  You will eventually lose ground because everyone else has gone back to shop, but you have gained max levels and gold since the start.

Next...  Both Vlemish and Plenor...  Now this is counterintuative to most Rook strategies, which focus on health before mana, but with the Vial, you can play a back seat if you need to and you will have all the towers/boulders/slams you need to whoop arse.

Then...  All the health you can stack.  Period.

Skills:

1. PoT

2. Shoulder Arrows

3. Save

4. PoT II

5. Shoulder Tower and Boulder

6. Slam

7. PoT III

8. Shoulder Treb

9. Slam II

10. PoT IV

11+...  Use your judgement as to how the game is going.

I'm tired of typing and not playing....  See you on the field!!!

I love vial rooks. Fireball's cooldown is so much faster  }:)

Well... to fireball a rook at level 1 you will have to walk up to two towers, take 200 - 250 damage depending on your armor from his towers, and then you'll hit the rook for 300 damage. Fireball I is a horrible skill. And later Rook can just hide behind more towers and back up when you move in to fireball him.

Rain of ice is much more annoying than fireball :D

Fireball is my IHateYouRook button.

Lvl 1 fireball is nuffin against anyone.

By the time Fireball is worth any damage (for all practical purposes), I already have 6k HP and I welcome you to waste your mana while my shoulder pecks away at you...  I love it when a TB goes fire...  Ice is the only TB hassle for Rook.

Just wait till you play me, then.

Teseer plays a hybrid TB red. It's very good against tower rooks. Rain of ice clears out your towers and fireball keeps your health down. And he doesn't run out of mana because he has BotS.

It's a hard build to play correctly though, you can't get hit too much.

For this....TB need a monk because his HP is low at start with Bots. And he will lose hp fast. And Hybrid TB is good at lvl 4, then lvl 7 ++. Lvl 1 fireball and lvl1 rain of ice dont do lot of damage BUT....its really annoying :D

Everyone should always have a monk unless it's a random assassin game.

Rook has very low armor and TB has the strongest (?) auto attack in the game at level 1.

Coupled with rain of ice which will slowly peck away at rook's towers, a hybrid TB can push a rook out of a lane 1v1.

That being said, it's a VERY hard build to pull off because of the complicated timing for switching forms, the timing on BotS and Rain of Ice, and avoiding damage at all times. Fireball and Rain of Ice have a very long range, so they work well to push a rook out without getting hit by towers.

A hybrid TB can certainly be a Rook's nightmare, but for all practical purposes, it's really the Ice side that does it.  Pure Fire TB vs Rook = victory for Rook most of the time.  The fireball is certainly an annoyance and Rook has to watch his health because of the speed.  A Fire TB generally can't use their AoEs without sustaining serious damage.

Welcome to 6 months ago. Standard rook build for some time now. I dont like getting tower 8 at 10, since that late in a game towers begin to lose the uber power they had with the increase in armor and creeps/minons on the field. Usually better to be getting slam 3 at that point.

I thought about writing a strat guy for a rook but found it a waste of time because I didnt want to go into as much detail as Teeser did on his tb post.

Your guide is good for setting newbs into a generally right direction for how to play rook but you don't go into any real detail on how to play it.  Such as, you should always be on hp for most of the start of the game. (esp if you went vial) and you shouldn't be aiming at getting kills, but holding your flag early on.  Also I would get unbreakables before you get the mana crowns.  I rarely run out of mana w/ a scale helm and unbreakables + you want the xtra hp for vial to effect more.

Problem with most bad rook players is they don't have patience or they think they can chase a kill early on, which will most likely get you killed pretty quickly in a high lvl match.

PoT IV halves the mana costs of  your towers, which is why it's awesome. 200 mana per tower is a joke.

Yeah, I know it isnt very detailed, but I originally posted this when I had a few minutes of free time.   Shortly after, I looked at the forums and there were already 2 or 3 Rook posts just before it.  I certainly appreciate the input though.  :-)
