lots of crashing with 3.2 when I try to use the configurator

I don't really know whats happening. Up thru the last beta's I could use the config option and cycle thru all my dreams and select them no problem. Now with 3.2 installed I would say 50% of the time as soon as I click on a new dream the app crashes. The rest of the time I can select a new dream and apply it and then as soon as I try to click on another dream in the configuration app I get a crash. This is on a fully updated Win7 x64 I-7 system with 12 gigs installed. Sapphire 5970 OC and AMD 10.6 drivers. Unfortunatly I'm not getting any sort of error message other than "Desktop 3 Configuration App has stopped working" and the option to close the app.

I can at least load a dream by just dbl clicking the file. I can also apply effects to whichever dream I have active using the config app but most times just selecting another dream in the config app crashes it :(

Did you install any codec packs?

Also did you recently upgrade your video drivers?

Okay I do use Sharks codec packages, have been for years and they always worked fine with Stardock. Initially with shark installed and AMD 10.5s I had no issues to speak of with the last betas. Upgraded the Deskscape app to 3.2 and a day later my graphics drivers to the newest AMD 10.6's that came out just this past week. I didn't use the configuration app between the time I installed the update and the drivers. Because of this I can't really say if its some change in the app or the latest drivers causing the problem. I did try to update my codec's, just in case, and no detectable change in the configuration app issue.

If there is some app I can run to give you more details let me know. Like I said I can sort of get around the issue for now but felt should ask about it.

Well Shark just released an updated codec package. Installed it in hopes that could be the issue but no luck. Wonder if it could have anything to do with the ne vid enhancement features ATI added with the latest drivers. Otherwise I'm at a los as to what to do/try.

My Dreams stopped working when I disabled all the Visual effects. When I re-enabled them the Dreams worked again.

This will probably also disable DWM, which will disable DeskScapes.  Good rule of thumb is that if Aero isn't enabled, DeskScapes probably won't work.

Well a couple things. First off I am using an Aero Theme. Also the dreams themselves run fine, its just the config app thats crashing. I can select "Configure DeskScape" by right clicking the desk top. The app open and shows the current dream. most times I can select another dream and the preview will update and I can sometimes even apply the dream that way. If I dont try to apply the dream but then click on another dream in the config app then it crashes. Whatever current dream is set continues running fine. I can also go to the Doc/dreams folder and dbl click any *.dream file it will apply and runs on my desktop just fine.

Am using fully updated Win7 x64, Sapphire OC 5970 with AMD Cats 10.6, I7 CPU and 12 gigs of mem running 1600. Have also updated all of my codec files to the latest but as I mentioned before Sharks packages have never caused an issue with deskscape before so not sure as to the problem. I saw a newer build available for download of DeskScape so installed that as well but still no joy. I know AMD added some new video enhancment features but just to see I disabled them all and the config app still acts up

Jess: If you verify DeskScapes in Impulse, does it say all is well?

I'm sorry for being stupid but what do you mean by "verify" Deskscapes? If I go to the my software tab it shows I have the most recent but I dont see any way to run some sort of check on my current install.

Edit: Okay I read the help and double checked. I am running the beta of Impulse on my Win7 x64 system so my display doesn't look exactly the same as the tile example in the help file but anyway when I right click on "Dreamscape (installed)" tile in the My Software tab I do not have the verify option at all.

I think you need to hold down shift to get that option now.

Shift did the trick and gave me the verify option. Ran it and Deskscape passes
