Since we're going to "help" ourselves the Afghans stabilize their country with this wealth, I'll be the first to recommend Halliburton on the basis of experience alone.

Last week Oz lost 2 sappers and their Explosives dog to a roadside bomb in Afghanistan.

That makes 13, many of whom were SAS [keeping other grunts alive].

That's nothing, you can find a fortune in oil now by just walking along the beachs of the Gulf states.:S

Among the world's very best. Killed by cowards. I wanted to quote the old "War's great business..." saying but I found that too cruel...but I also find the announcement about the "Trillion Dollars" crass beyond all tolerance.

Turns out the Russians did the same kind of surveying.  Funny how great minds think alike.

Great minds... or greedy minds???

That would be funny if it wasn't true  :S

Am I the only one finding this extremely disturbing - on behalf of the Afghanistan people?

Good, so some foreigner found a vast 'money pit' in the underground, but how about handing the info over to the natives and let them profit from it - instead of a foreign country?

So true! My point as well.

No, Snowman you're not the only one. That, and the people killed were the reason for the post. The response in the picture under the young woman was classic. The post is sarcastic...and her remark ironic. Yes, There are those who say "This will unite them, give them hope for a future!". I only point to Uganda...it's resources and what happened and continues to happen there.

Afghanistan and Iraq were only other versions of "Blood Diamonds". The folks responding seem to have understood that, as have you.

Afghanistan was a terrorist farm.  I really don't think anyone went in there thinking about copper.  Ya though the responses in the article are classic, as the saying goes "That's why everybody hates us."

I don't want to ruin everyone's fun about the evil American greed, but the point of the original news release was to point out that there was a possible foundation for an economy in Afghanistan other than poppy growing that could sustain the government and the citizens.  Sorry for the interruption, back to your bashing.

It's the responses in the article that are so revealing.;)

More like sustain the government and not the citizens. -_-

Yes, Ken as I wrote in response #9....I really used to believe all that. Events have forced me to a more jaundiced view. When the announcement was made, I thought that would be wonderful for them. Then, more recent events popped into mind (Iraq, Uganda).

I wish I could be the believer I was 45 years ago. Honestly. My intent is to warn and to have others put forward their feelings, pro, against, believer, non-believer, whatever. Somewhere inside I do wish to regain my innocence...but I keep seeing the cupidity of the people who wish 'to help'.

I honestly hope these resources give hope to the Afghans who after 30 years of unceasing war and turmoil really do deserve a break. I also keep thinking of the more probable variants that will be spawned by the businessmen, politicians, tribal warlords and drug runners.

Sorry to bash if that's all I've done, but even bashing can be a good thing if it teaches the corrupt a lesson....if not, what's the point of doing anything except wringing one's hands?

Too late... in such a corrupt world as this.

Even turning a blind eye wouldn't help... you can't unsee the evil and corruption you've already seen.

I knew there had to be some reason why we invaded that hell hole.
