Got a Question

What brilliant developer thought it best to NOT put teams together in a match?  I stopped playin Sins a little after Entrenchment came out, and picked it back up again just a few days ago to give it another go.  Come to find out in Entrenchment and Diplomacy I'm apparently not allowed to have everyone on one team in the same star system.  I guess the one guy amidst 3-4 enemies is just screwed over?  Is there any way to all to group teams together in a star system?  I don't play online, I mostly play the AI or with a few friends that have it.

I'm all for goin solo at times against everyone else, but sometimes I'd like to play with a team.  There's not even a point in a team if I'm gonna be placed in enemy territory every time.

The random maps have randomized start locations.  Actually, I personally find the "teams together" configuration to be the most boring in a 5v5, and so this randomization is actually a good thing.  Multistar matches in particular if teams are together just turn into an economist's race.  The last time I played a 5v5 on a multistar map, the game ended before the first major battle when I fired my first pair of novaliths (had another half dozen coming online shortly) at an enemy homeworld.

If you want to play with teams together, you can always create your own galaxyforge map as mentioned.

If you're only playing against the AI or with a few friends then you can just make your own custom maps in Galaxy Forge as MyFist suggested.  It would actually be very easy to fix if you want to modify the starting positions in the standard maps.  You will notice that some Terrans on the edges have been designated as home planets, like "NewPlayer1-Home" with the players going from 0-9.  On the <Edit> pull down menu select <Players> and then for each player you can lock the player start to a certain team--0 or 1 (or whatever single digit number you want, I suppose).  The number you want to adjust is "TeamIndex".  You can use that to set the starting positions anyway you want.

Then save the file with a new name to your desktop.  Find your Sins Application Data folder and move the map into the "GalaxyForge" folder and you're good to go.  It will show up as a Galaxy Forge or Custom map in the map selection window.  You can email the file to your friends and tell them to put it in their Galaxy Forge folder.  Here is a link to information about how to find that folder (read the 2nd post in the thread).  http://TinyURL.com/Sins5

Thanks! I mostly play 2 v 2 or 3 v 3 (4v4 if I get ambitious) on huge maps (cause my computer sucks).  I play vicious comps, so 1 v 2 isn't always best for a casual gamer lol.  I also have a fetish for using my computer allies as meat shields... but I'll take a look, thanks for the help.
