WindowFX on Object Desktop

WindowFX on Object Desktop

If you have Object Desktop, WindowFX 2.2 is in beta and boy does it have some cool stuff.

The main new feature is window scaling. See the main screenshot along with this one here:
https://www.stardock.com/products/windowfx/wfx-feb04a.jpg

Window scaling is where you take a regular window and have it be any size you want on the screen. If you hold down the shift key when you minimize a window, WindowFX will turn it into a tile. You can then use the Ctrl key to resize the tiled window to any size you want and optionally interact with it.

The tiled window isn't just some snapshot or some other hack its live. With real-time window updating. This can be quite useful for those of you have multiple chat windows open at once and want to keep track of them at once. You can also optionally set the tiled windows to stay on top so that it's easy to go back and forth to a group of windows you're working on.

If you don't have Object Desktop, you can get it at www.objectdesktop.com. It's a suite of desktop enhancements that includes WindowBlinds, DesktopX, IconPackager, Theme Manager, ObjectBar, Keyboard LaunchPad, and more.

I am using Altdesk. The tiles are sticky but the windows are not. In other words, when I tile a window I see it in all desktops. But when I click to untile it, it unitles it on the original desktop and my focus stays on the desktop I happen to be on.

Also it seems Explorer windows don't tile. Otherwise it is a very functional program.

To those having trouble with it. I couldn't get it to tile til after I rebooted. All PC's may not need a reboot, but after I did, the feature worked flawlessly.
I think its incredible. Much better than ObjectDock's thumbnail (obviously a free product can't be too advanced).
I do wish, however, that it could combine aligning with a side and remembering its position. Then not only can I get them to go where I want and remember it, but I don't have to reposition new windows that hadn't been created before.
This is definitely the most useful feature ever in WindowsFX. Everything else was just plain eye candy.
Also don't notice a performance decline which is a big plus.

BUT.... this new tile thingy has absolutely no idea what to do with a program like Incredimail. Programs that have **their own way** of skinning themselves?

Unfortunately this doesn't seem to work with video player apps. I'm not really surprised, as it would have to handle the overlay drawing functions that these apps use, but I still felt a bit of a let down when I tried to tile a movie player and see the movie continue to play in its shrunk state. What actually happens at the moment is the movie player window shrinks down, but the overlay is left at its original size and position on the screen.

No version of this for OD owners yet. Don't get it >

This feature is really cool, but I hope it gets smoother for the final 2.2 version. Please add the shadow function to the taskbar so we won't have to run Y'z Shadow any longer

Woohoo, it is possible to add a shadow to the taskbar! Awesome, should've checked that out before my previous post )

The only problem I am having is if I try and do this with My Documents folder it don’t work and then if I just try to minimize the folder I cant get it to restore. And every now and then every thing starts to stick.

I cant edit my messages here any more but one other thing is if I am working in 3DS Max or Paint Shop Pro or any other program that has tool bars they stay on top like I didn’t tile the window.

I played around with WinFX when I first got ODNT but after awhile the novelty wore off and I stopped using it.

Now this new feature looks like something I would use on a regular basis.

I guess it's time to bring WinFX back up to my Desktop.

I noticed on my system that any program that you want to tile has to be run after tiles is enabled which includes explorer.

It's just too bad transparent parts in the windows can't be transparent in the tiles.
