Kazaa's (ahem) "owner" Sharman Networks, has stood up the rights of intellectual property holders...well no, maybe just itself and taken steps to zap Kazaa Lite K++.

It seems that Kazaa gets much of its revenue from installing various ads and spyware programs on people's machines (or you can pay $30 to get rid of that). Kazaa Lite K++ bypassed all that so users to get to stealing software, music, and downloading porn faster.

Truly, a major...blow to pirates, warezers, leeches, and porn users everywhere. More info on The Register.

oh well

/me plays the smallest violin in the world for Shaman networks.

I work for an ISP support desk, and I *hate* Kazaa. Hate that *expletive deleted* software like a passion.

Torrent. Is all I will say.
So you can still get all your porn and "free" apps.

Unless the software is built like Stardocks.

kazaa lite was surely the best..anything you wanted..its there//i didnt really like the regular kazaa anyway, first and now kazaa light, the old morpheus was the shit...now it sucks

My KaZaA Lite is working just fine. Pretty ironic that a program designed to help pirate things is worried about people pirating their service.

Look ma, people on high horses! And er, ma, they seem to be quite oblivious as to how things work. Must be because they sit so high that they can't see what's going on below.

Its A Hearbreaking News..........But K++ is still doing its job

Damn...where AM I going to get my spyware from now?
Reply #13 Top
Tell me Craeonics, who are these people on high horses? And in what way are they oblivious oh wise one?
Reply #15 Top
First of all, Sharman, riding the high horse for defending their "intellectual property" (they are not the original developers, by the way) of an app whose primary use is to spread material, regardless of its copyright, is oblivious to the fact that by taking this step they alienate part of FastTrack's user base.

Now some of them will use Sharman's spyware incarnation, but I suspect more and more will head for the alternatives. Thus, the diversity of available files and sources will diminish.

Coupled with more and more bogus files, this will mean that KaZaA and possibly is slowly but steadily slippling into the abyss.

Secondly, all those that say "ha, evil warez users, that will teach you" (can't stand that attitude), are oblivious of the fact that the alternatives are plentifull.

A major blow? Don't think so.

I think Sharman Networks "went after" K++ to cover their butts for "going after" the RIAA for using software on the same wire as Kazaa. Would only make sense; if they go after a large entity like the RIAA then the RIAA will fire back with everything else that is accessing the network.

Honestly, I don't think we'll ever see the end of K++ ...

Crae: My comment was tongue in cheek regarding "major blow".

I just don't have any sympathy for warez people or parasites like Sharman networks.

just because you have k++ doesnt mean you download warez i likemany independant artists and k++ is where i heard of all of them since then i have bought their albums it is not just for pirated stuff.

secondly k++ has no ads you are thinking of normal kazaa which sucks and thats why k++ came about if they just made it add free then k++ might not have had to compete with them

last K++ still lives on if you want it just join and search their forums people are still hosting it.
http://www.klboard.ath.cx/ k++ will live on

it'll just be harder to find rare stuff like the 2pac - rap phenomenon 2 cd i'm getting right now.
