When did they decide technology wasn't fun anymore?

Remember PC Week (before it was eWeek) and InfoWorld? They used to be THE goto publications for getting the latest news on the tech industry.

Now look at them. What the heck happened? Anyone who gets them will notice that they are very thin and contain very niche stuff ("Enterprise IT solutions round-up!"). Why?

To put it in perspective, WinCustomize has a higher Alexa.com (web traffic) ranking than eWeek and InfoWorld. How did this happen?

This article at JoeUser takes a look.

I received eWeek for free after filling out multiple pages of an online questionaire that took about a half hour. eWeek has become mostly advertizing now and when it came time to renew, I did not take the time to fill out the survey again. Not even worth the time. jim

You've captured my feelings exactly. The magazines left the real world around the same time and in much the same way as Lou Gerstner abandoned OS/2. They've bowed down before the soulless god of the "enterprise." Then again, they make alot of money.

Dare I say, even Spencer the Katt isn't very funny anymore.
