Mozilla Gains Popularity over Inernet Explorer and Outlook

http://www.mozilla.org/products/firebird/why/
Mozilla has recently been taking over the Internet scene with its producs, Mozilla Firebird and Thunderbird, both gaining in popularity. More and more users have been finding that their easy to use interfaces, and advanced features such as Tab-Browsing to get rid of having multiple IE windows open at a time (My personal favorite), and a flawless pop up remover. There are many themes, plugins, and extensions available for these programs. I suggest you head over to www.Mozilla.com and check them out for yourself.

You can read why you should switch to these programs:

You can also read some great online articles from Joel and also Jon Udell

There are many other programs that Mozilla has to offer, I have begun to switch over to them and have never looked back! I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!

It works well, but how do I fix ultra-choppy side-scrolls and slightly choppy up/down scroll?
They have a plugin for that, go to tools, options, extensions, get extensions and i think one is called smooth scroll... and my theme is stylexp eclipseosx.

ok, so....what is the difference between Mozilla Firebird, and Mozilla Thunderbird??? Same functions as IE? ( I gather means Internet Explorer?)

Firebird replaces the need for Internet Explorer (webbrowsing(, Thunderbird replaces the need for Microsoft Outlook Expresss (email)

" hey... what SKIN is that in the picture ?... could someone tell me cuz it looks cool "

That's the default "Mozilla Firebird" skin. Most of the skinning you see is WindowsBlinds with some Aqua type skin.

Ya the Aqua type skin is EclipseOSX, by style xp, www.tgtsoft.com you can dl it there, Firebird and Thunderbird take that skin perfectly...

I've been using Firebird for about 3 or 4 months now, and absolutely love it!! For me the best part is that I don't have those annoying popups anymore. I find that the pages do load faster, and I love it that I don't have to find browser themes to match my currant WB theme. This is by far a much better browser than IE ever thought to be. I give it more than 2 thumbs up!!

What 'bloated crashiness' in Mozilla? I'm using v1.5 and have absolutely no problems with it whatsoever. The only thing I can't use it for is Windows Update. I've tried Firebird and Thunderbird, and while they both work well they don't have that 'polished' feel that Mozilla has.

The only bloat is Firebird's memory foot print, but as far as I know Mozilla is till to undergo performance optimisations (they want to fix the bugs before they start tweaking) and Firebird still has lots of unused theme bits ad pieces leftover from Mozilla.

Anyhow, been running Mozilla and its offspring for years now, so I am completely biased in favour of it.

I have been a fan of Mozilla and Firebird for some time. Tried Opera. Didn't like ads and why pay for it. Mozilla 1.4 is the same as Netsacpe 7.1. 1.5 is only slightly different. The difference between Mozilla 1.4 or 1.5 and Firebird is that Mozilla has the mail client built in and the options setting menus are more modern with icons in Firebird. I don't know about the internals. Not to worry about the not builtin mail client. Thunderbird is the mail client and is a separate program. That is not problem because you can get extensions for each program to put icons on the toolbar for any outside programs! We need a section in Wincustomize for the skins of Mozilla and Thunderbird.

Mozilla & Thunderbird look and sound great. I've also been looking at the Avant browser which also looks kinda spiffy.

One of these days I will take the plunge and go thru the agony of massive re-tweaking.

As John said, Mozilla has mail, irc, composer and a lot of other stuff build in. Firebird is a lot like the Mozilla plus and minus some features. I use them interchangeably, so I never pay too much attention to the differences.

*cough* What I meant to say was: Firebird is a lot like the Mozilla browser.

Fingers seem to be waging war against my mind again.

I just use Netscape.

I love it. Those others are cool, but I like Netscape all around including the tabbed browsing.

Very useful.
Opera is good too and worth the money to pay for it. Didn't like Firebird because Windowblinds didn't skin it.

i agree with you tom mccarthy, opera has had it long time already. the problem, i believe, has to do with the name, not the content... people are bias and they choose programs that sound cool most of the time.

Another feature some people may want to know about is auto reload, if you have tab browser extensions on, (can get in tools, options, extensions, get exten) is auto reload. Right click the tab and then go down to auto reload. You can have a page reload itself at 20 second intervals, 20, 40, 60, all the way to like 600 seconds. Nice feature if you always refresh a page like forum boards or something, just turn it on and you dont have to wroyy about it anymore

As for the question about the difference of Mozilla and Firebird.
1). Mozilla has built in email and news support
2). Mozilla looks like the old Netscape (out of the box so to speak)
3). Firebird is more like IE in looks, but is themeable as is Mozilla.
4). Firebird does not have built in email and news support, i.e. clients.

Both do tabbed browsing.

As for Opera... My reason or reasons for not using opera are
1). It costs
2). It seems (to me) difficult to add plugins and is not supported by plugins as much as IE or Netscape/Mozilla/Firebird. Again these are just my opinions. It has nothing to do with name. Since I have tried it and it did not appeal to me.

That's my 1/2 cent worth of an opinion and information.

I'm wondering where you got the stats that say mozilla is gaining on IE. After reviewing the stats for our website IE has a 97% usage while Mozilla has 0.8% usage.

So i'd like to know where you received your facts from that says whay you're saying is fact and not fiction.

Thanks
