Drive By Ratings?

  I would like to ask if there is anything in place to detect drive by ratings on skins? It seems that I once read that there was. Is it in effect for this new WC site?

I ask this for a reason. Now, I'm not posting this to cry and moan, "Oh , I get poor ratings, I want 5 stars across the board!" or anything like that. But I do suspect I'm being downrated by someone.  8C    Example: Venom DX. Now as popular as Venom is, I find 1 1/2 stars a bit hard to swallow. And there are others.

That said, again, I post this to simply ask the question, for the entire community, are there safeguards in place to monitor this kind of activity? *_*

Personally, I don't see how you could monitor such a thing, but if it's there, I'd feel better.    :grin:

We have ways of picking up the so-called "drive-bys", but I won't go into details.  For the most part, considering the amount of skins uploaded, the problem is very slim and usually dealt with pretty quickly.

If you do think there is an issue with a particular skin, PM a mod and we can look more into it.  :)

This may be no help but up to a month ago i think I rated skins low and never meant to. I would just click on a star never knowing to give the best rating you had to click on the last star. I went somewhere in my setting or where ever and saw my average rating I gave for skins was 2. I knew this wasn't right so did some checking and found each star had a number on it. I wouldn't even rate a skin at a 2, I would just rather not rate it. The good part about this is I don't rate very often so I'm sure I didn't hurt many people.

 In the case of Venom DX it could also be that some folks downloaded from DA and forgot to rate it on WC once it became available here.

(Don't tell RND,but I did it myself as well.):blush:   Often, I get the test version and  don't download the released version,then forget to comment or rate it later in the galleries. I'm only one vote but I can't be the only one that absent-minded.......or can I?;P

exactly how do people abuse this. I don't get it, it's a friggin bell curve. some rate high and some rate low and the median wins out. one person, one vote. please..enlighten.

Some people because of reasons like dislike of a certain skin author will purposely give the lowest rating to a skin without downloading it or even looking at the preview pic, the authors name is all they need to see and rate it with a 1.

I'm slowly coming around to this way of thinking about the rating system. drop the rating system so people can not sort based on ratings would level the playing field and provide equal exposure for all blinds.

If there are just a few ratings, one low rate by someone with a high user level can affect a fair drop. The higher your user level the more weight your rate holds.

Ratings are peoples opinions. If you see something you like download and try it. If you don't like it just delete. It's really that simple and if one is waiting to download and try something that is rated at the higher level because they think it's better, they may be missing out on something that they may actually like on their computer.

I don't pay mind to ratings,I look more for comment(to help strengthen my weak points) and download.

I did a wallpaper that have gotten 4 star and a logon studio which is similar and got 1/2 star :grin:

Maybe you authors shouldn't be so quick to drive off critics who give a reason by resorting to insult and name calling.  You may not agree with the reason but being disagreeable in response creates a potential board enemy.  If nothing else, board enemies are bad for business.
