WB7 titlebar skinning problem in XP/FireFox

Windowblinds7 (purchased and downloaded through Impulse) will not skin titlebar with downloaded themes, in XP SP3 with the latest Firefox.  Themes included with Windowblinds skin titlebar properly, titlebar also skins properly after any full screen app is used.

Please let me know any further info you need about this bug.

Did you have the trial version installed previously?  The trial version has limitations similar to what you describe.  If you didn't uninstall the trial first, you could have a corrupted install.

Go to the Windowblinds Configuration dialog, click on About Windowblinds, click on the button which says 'Copy to Clipboard' then paste the contents into a reply here.  That'll help sort it out.

Moved to support.

I had the trial version which I uninstalled before downloading the purchased version. Here are the specs from my Windowblinds dialog:

WindowBlinds is installed correctly on this PC
WindowBlinds appears to be activated on this PC
Your machine supports per pixel borders on WindowBlinds skins.

The newest beta (7.1, build 89) has a couple of files older than those shown in your install, which seems a little odd.  Might try updating to 7.1 to see if that fixes it.

I must really be a dunce, because I can't find an option to update Windowblinds either in the program, on the website, or through Impulse.

You probably need to click on the blue button at the upper left in Impulse & check 'Show pre-release versions' to see the beta updates.  Don't feel bad - Impulse doesn't come with a manual. ;)

To try and resolve this issue, try verifying the application through Impulse.  To verify the application through Impulse:

-Launch Impulse.  Right click on the entry for the application and choose "Verify Installation"
-Impulse will check the integrity of the installed application.  You should be given feedback as to the state of the installed application.
-If errors are found, an update should be made available in Impulse.  This is not an update to a newer version, but simply Impulse using the update mechanism to replace corrupted files.
-Once the update completes, reboot your PC.

Hello,

Please go to Start> Run.. in XP or Start>Start Search in Vista, type "regedit" and hit enter.  Navigate to the following key:

32 Bit:  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Stardock\ObjectDesktop\WindowBlinds
64 Bit:  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Stardock\ObjectDesktop\WindowBlinds

You'll want to make sure it is set to the following path:

32 Bit:  C:\Program Files\Stardock\Object Desktop\WindowBlinds
64 Bit:  C:\Program Files (x86)\Stardock\Object Desktop\WindowBlinds
(NOTE: If you installed WindowBlinds to a different directory, replace the above default one with your custom location)

If the path was incorrect, change it and then reboot.

If it is in fact pointing to this path, try verifying the application through Impulse.  If you need to, you may download Impulse here: http://www.impulsedriven.com/impulse_setup_full.exe .  Once Impulse is installed it will give you the option to create a Stardock.net account if you haven't already.  If you already have an account, but forgot the password, Impulse also will give you the option to retrieve your account information.

Please let me know whether this resolves your problem or if you have any additional questions.

Thanks so much for the tips guys! However, Impulse wouldn't let me select 'show pre release versions', and when I tried 'verify install' for Windowblinds, it came back clean with no option to update.

This is really getting under my skin. I should've stuck with the basic XP theme and saved myself this headache. #:(

What happened when you tried to enable this?

Greyed out 'checked' or greyed out 'unchecked'?

Did you try going one level further in the dialog by clicking on 'Preferences...' & see whether you could select 'Show Pre-release (Alpha/Beta) Versions' there?

Actually, going into preferences did the trick as far as allowing me to check the 'show pre releases' option. I updated to the latest beta, restarted, but it did nothing to change the skinning problem. The titlebar still only skins after using a full screen app.

Something's obviously still wrong with your install.  If you're willing, switch to/apply the default XP UI using WB's configuration dialog (which unloads WB), then uninstall WB using Impulse, reboot and try a fresh install of WB using the latest beta.  After you do that, re-post your system information from WB config (unless the problem is solved, of course).
