Fatal Accident on Our Street

My Husband Pulls 3 Men from Burning Truck

Below is the report of an incident that occured a couple of nights ago in front of our home, directly across our street. I rendered aid to Arthur Hayes, the one who'd pulled himself out of the burning truck and into our front yard. He is undergoing surgery today for a crushed left hip socket and fractured pelvic bone. The driver of the vehicle, Jacob, is due for release from the hospital tomorrow. My husband is listed below-Michael Sorrels. He's definitely a hero, and an angel to the survivor (Jacob) whose life would've been lost if he wouldn't have pulled him from the truck.

The year 2003 is ending tragically in Orange. A fatal wreck Tuesday night caused anxious moments for families living in a quiet neighborhood.
The crash killed two men and injured two others.
Shortly before midnight, a new pickup truck crashed into a pine tree at the corner of 23rd Street and Maxwell Circle.
The truck, which had four men inside, caught fire.
One of the men managed to get out, but the other three were trapped inside.
Michael Sorrels, who lives across from where the wreck happened, pulled the men from the burning truck.
One of the victims, 25 year old Elias Casares,III. from Corpus Christi man was pronounced dead at the scene.
20 year old Brandon Applebach of Orange died later at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Orange.
The other two men, the 23 year old driver, Jacob Casares, and a 20 year old passenger, Arthur Hayes IV suffered serious injuries and were taken to Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont.
Police believe the truck was heading southbound on 23rd Street when it missed a curve in the road, and hit the pine tree in the yard of Roderick Robertson.
Robertson says he was inside watching television with his five year old son when the crash happened.
He says his main concern was getting his child out safely before the fire spread to the house.
A side of the house did get some damage, but the father and son escaped unharmed.
Elias Casares had been discharged from the military and lived with his grandfather in Corpus Christi. He was in town visiting his mother and brother, Jacob.
Precinct 4 Justice of the Peace Sherry Smith has ordered an autopsy and a toxicology test.

What a sad event. Those two survivors were lucky to have people like you and your husband right there. I just knew you were good people (that was in reference to the comments to my racism article).

Hope the new year is happy for your family and theirs.

Thank you both for your comments. I'm so sorry that your brother's friend didn't make it, Shaney. Do you live in Orange, as well? What a small world... I wish that all 4 of the passengers in the vehicle would've been okay, but I guess our creator had different plans for them.
