Match Length - Other generic questions

I'm sure these questions have been answered a thousand times before and I'm sorry for asking them again - but the search function doesn't work very well on my cellphone(at work at the moment) so if you guys could bare with me and just quickly answer my generic questions to help me with deciding if I want to make a purchase that would be terrific.

Anyways, I'm not overly concered with multiplayer as I'm looking for a game to play whilst I'm traveling - and this and something called Galactiv Civilization(haven't looked it over yet) came from a friend as recommendations, I'm a hard core strategy fan so I checked out the information on the site and a few of the forum posts, but what I was wondering if the game is still a good purchase if I intend to just stay with the single player component - I know their is a 'skirmish' option outside of the main single player, but how long do these games usually last on a 'medium-medium hard' difficulty opponent for an above average strategy player. Also what kinda time frame should I be looking at to complete the main single player component?

On a side note, could anyone label out the difficulty swing for the different factions, I.E. who's the easiest to play, and the hardest. Is there anything else I should know going into the game for the first time? I'll be buying the combo-pack so anything I should know about that? Once again, sorry for such a generic thread to clog up the forums - but any help would be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance.

The match lenght for SP will vary depending on your play style and map you choose. Most small maps can be beat close to 20 if you aggresive and expand like you would in MP. Though as you play more and learn your flow the time need to beat a map drops.

The biggest things that will affect your completion time are map size, large maps=more planets bigger buffer zone between you and your enemies. Also game speed. In Diplomacy/Trinity there are 4 speeds to choose from they will dictate your flow. For example, I play on slow. B/c I like long drawn out games. Depending on the map I choose and what I feel like playing that map (Turtle up or blitz) my games can last from 4 hours to 60 hours. The latter usually split up as time dictates. And that is ingame time also. On the other end of the scale some people can finish maps in 20 mins or less.

As for what race is easiest. That depends on your play style. All the races have a whole lot in common, but its their differences that make them play different. I highly suggest you play with all 3 till you find the one you like. Most people though would suggest TEC. They play straight forward more or less. If you not taken a glance at some of the unit guides go ahead and do so. It will give you a basic idea on the counters and what does what.

Welcome and you get hours and hours of enjoyment out of this game. Most of SINS players are SP people so you fit right in.

Once you gotten the game down tight, make sure to check out the mods. There are some awesome one to pick from. Everything from Total Conversions of your favorite Sc-Fi movies, to truely unique universes, and some mod that enhance SINS by adding more stuff. If nothing else, make sure to pick up Volumetric Explosions if your computer can handle it. :)

Just a fyi, there isn't a "main singleplayer component" in the sense of a campaign or a set of maps to beat. There is only skirmish.

TEC is probably the easiest to learn, as they require the least micromanagement, and have both the easiest economy to get rolling, and the best economy overall.

As far as I'm concerned, no, it's not worth it just for single player. Not that the AI isn't reasonably challenging (I've yet to best the Vicious AI, though I've only tried a few times) but because I don't really enjoy fighting AIs. Trying to match something with 40 times my resources isn't my idea of a fun time; I much prefer the mental challenge of fighting human players. Without a campaign, single player doesn't hold a long-term attraction for me - even with one, that attraction would last only as long as the campaign. However, as carbon pointed out, I'm in the minority of Sins players - somehow, they manage to enjoy fighting the computer.

Galciv might be a better choice for single player. I don't know if it includes a campaign, but I played the demo a bit and got the feeling it's somewhat like Sid Mier's Civ series, only in space. That is, turn based, much more interesting diplomacy, deeper research, etc - in a phrase, designed for singleplayer. I don't believe there's a multiplayer component at all.
