WindowBlinds 4: April 8th

http://www.windowblinds.net/wb4
Stardock has pushed the final release date of WindowBlinds 4 back one week so that it can go through final compatibility testing. The first release candidate should be available in the next day or so for those users who have Object Desktop.

If you want WindowBlinds 4 right now, you can get Object Desktop.

Also, the WindowBlinds 4 Media Guide has been completed. Now you can check out everything that's new in WindowBlinds 4.

Hmmm, what is that skin in the foreground of the screenie ?.

Also, when is DesktopX 2.0 coming out!?! Is there going to be an individual release of Icon X tech, or will it only be bundled with DesktopX?

There is an update to WB available.

Excellent. Good to see a concrete release date. Latest versions on OD are looking very positive.

I assume people just aren't as religious as me checking for application updates, as the build which removes the timeout issue has been available for several days.

Looking forward to the final download. I'm also keen to hear when a DX build update is due.

Stardock Central says I have version 3.97[b].025 installed dated 3/15/2003 and no other updates are available. If an update has been available for several days then 1) why is it not listed in Stardock Central and 2)where can I download it from.

PS. Thanks for the quick feedback.

First of all, get rid of that annoying 'Galactic Civilizations' pop-up window!

Second, pick a release date and stick with it. I (like everyone else) DO want a stable product and am willing to wait for it. However, pick a realistic release date instead of continuously pushing an over zelous date back and back... and back.

All and all, keep up the good work, StarDock!

Doudar and Rdefx;

Not sure if this has anything to do with it but I am still using the Component Manager showing all releases and have access to WB 3.5 and the latest (3.99b) WB 4. SD Central issue??

MogWaEE, I believe thats the next wincustomize subscriber skin, still unreleased.

Modan, your so right, everyone else does set and make 'realistic' release dates ::cough::

Yeah, I agree with Modan. First it was supposed to be released the 25th(?), then it was pushed back to this week, and now it looks like next week.

I wonder why those that only pay for WB, have to wait for the final release, unlike the OB people. Just because I don't want the whole package, mean I can't get the early versions of WB? I think only those people who use the free version should have to wait.

Just hope it isn't pushed back any farther. I am looking forward to it though.

TheGuess, your not running a subscription service, you bought A piece of software. If you bought a copy of Photoshop does that guarantee you into the next versions beta? I think not. It's the same here. Be happy with what you have or sign up for the subsription.

It's an OD subsciber perk and I hope it stays that way.

does this mean that WB4 will be available for OS's other than just XP on that day as well?

Yeah, it could be an April Fool's joke.. maybe we'll find out tomorrow.

Thornz, I think they should allow WB subscribers to test the beta's of future WB versions. That way more people can test it. It's not like I want to test the beta of ObjectBar or any of the other OD utilities. That's just how I feel though.. I never said I was disappointed about it.

If you click on the "visit now" link above, it says XP only next week, older windows versions will be supported in the next quarter.

On the other hand, people who's subscriptions ran out yesterday won't get a final version of 4.0, while you will definitely get all versions of it, if you bought it recently or upgrade.

WB4 will be XP only until probably May/June.

I am looking forward to the final release of WB4. I agree with Thornz comment above. I paid for the OD subscription and definitely enjoy the perks that go with it. People should stop complaining so much about having to wait a few days or not having access to something they haven't paid for. Stardock is a quality company and IMHO have a good reputation for releasing excellent software. If it takes a few more days to "fine tune" things then who cares?

I wasn't complaining about it being released later.. I wasn't complaining about anything for that matter. It was only my opinion. If you don't feel the same way, then that's fine with me. I'm not here to argue.

I purchased WB 3.5 only a few weeks ago! Does this mean if I want Windows Blinds 4 I have to purchase that ? Or do I get a free upgrade ?

for the people saying they cannot see the latest version of WB, if you are checking in SC have you set it to show pre-release versions? if not, you wont see it.

Riptorian, normal stardock practice is that if you have purchased WB sufficently close to the release date of the next version, you automatically get a free update to the next version.

the windowblinds newsgroup would be a good place to check for info on this.

you could also email [email protected]

Thanks feline. I purchased it at the beginning of March. I have just read the confirmation email and it says "If you need to download the latest enhanced version or get your serial
number in the future, please visit https://www.stardock.com/support/"
so I assume by lastest enhanced version it means version 4 when that is release ?

For those not seeing the update in SDC, make sure you have the latest SDC (its at rc1 I believe). I wasn't seeing new updates for several days, upgraded my SDC (downloaded the full install as the autoselfupdate also didn't seem to be happening on the older SDC), and everything shows up now.
