ObjectDock 0.75 Released

http://www.objectdock.com
Here's what is in the readme file:

"-Running-program Indicators.... shortcuts to files will have
indicator after clicked while the program that was opened is
still running... shortcuts to exe's will always have an
indicator whenever the program is running.

-Single clicking an app with a running indicator will bring
all its windows to the foreground. Double clicking will run it again.

-Further improved dropping of some objects (e.g. My Computer, IE) to take advantage of running indicators.

-Added button to properties dialog of windows in OD's taskbar... clicking it will add a shortcut to the program the window belongs to to the dock. Very useful!

-Re-running the dock opens the dock config window.

-Fixed taskbar misfunctioning temporarily when Outlook Express "rules" window is opened.

-Bunch of other little glitch issues fixed"

"Single clicking an app with a running indicator will bring all its windows to the foreground. Double clicking will run it again"

I don't likt this feature, is there a way of disabling it? For instance when I want to run a second window of IE, it first pops up the one I have minimized, which is not what I want .

I'm really happy with the app though!

Not quite sure if anyone experienced the problem when clicking the "My Computer" icon!? There was nothing pumping out with this version of OD for running on Win2K while previous ones could always bring you a new window that shows your A/B/C/D hard disks. Any clue? Thanks!

yea, i noticed the "my computer" problem, i am running on xp and most of the time the my computer window don't pop up, i have to click like a million times to get it open, hope they will fix that!

I am also having the "my computer" problem, other wise its great. I would like to see a way of making this app start up automatically on boot up, no problem for myself, but other family members get confused as to where and how to start it

Drive and folder shortcuts don't work anymore. I have to fill in 'explorer.exe' into the link-fild and give the folder or drive as an argument.

Bugs:

- The dock seperator behaves normally for resizing only if the dock is on the bottom or right edge. The resize behaviour is backwards when on the left or top edge of the screen.
- The folder browser doesn't display nested subfolders. It just lists everything as though it's in the same folder.
- The poof animation gets scaled (not very well) when the real OSX dock displays the animation at its native resolution only (128x128).

Requests:

- Seperate indicator images for each edge of the screen, rather than rotating one.
- Left and right edges for foreground images.
- Author comments in skin INI files
- It would be more flexible if seperator images weren't drawn on top of the dock, but -instead- of the dock. It would allow us to create effects like a tiny gap between the tasks and the shortcuts.
- Skinned context menus, of course.
- Edge padding. Allow a skin to specify X number of pixels to pad between each dock edge and the icons. Useful if a dock has a drop-shadow effect in the PNG's, otherwise the dock icons overlap with the dock edge.

For those experiencing the "explorer" problem (things like 'my computer' not running: it has to do with the feature that is identifying running programs - this was added in the 0.75 version. The dock identifies that "explorer.exe" is already running (explorer is *always* running), and thus, single clicking a dock-link to explorer won't work - you have to double-click to make it launch.

A workaround solution: make a copy of explorer.exe in your C:\Windows folder. Call it something else, like "explorer2.exe". Instead of using "explorer.exe" as the shortcut in your dock, change it to explorer2.exe - OD will see it as a different program, and will run it by single clicking instead of double clicking.

I am also having the "my computer" problem, solved it by replacing the behavior with "explorer.exe -e" as I prefer the Win2K look to XP one.

Bit unstable though, I tried adding my quick links to it (10 in all) and after I got it just right it crashed (after it did this 3 times, and lost all the shortcuts I did I said screw it I will wait for a more stable build).

Apart from that one bug where it crashed after adding shortcuts it ran fast, and very smooth, not sure what I did to cause it to crash, but it was persistant enough that it made it unusable for me right now.

Very nice app though, shame the grass skin has a dog turd in it (or at least thats that it looks like to me)

Powered by SkinBrowser!

I did a simpler solution : Switched back to 0.70. The new 'feature' is bugging me really.

As a side note : I don't use it for the 'mac look' but as a practical and nice tool to have some shortcuts handy. My desktop other than the dock doesn't look like Mac at all... So no use for stupid comments.

"juz get a mac~!" ???

that's like adding a rear spoiler to your black pontiac sunfire, and having your neighbor come over and say, "just get a Diablo"

whaddya think we're made of money, and can just run out and buy a whole new machine just because we want our current one to look different?

Hmm,
I have just downloaded this latest version of OD.

I still can't place the dock where I please, only the 4 predefined places. [I want it on the bottom, but on one of my 2 moniors not both!]

In the mean time I thought I would download the new Moby Dock 0.67 [http://www.mobydock.tk/] and to my suprise I can position it where I want, it can be in the center of the screen if you want it to be! It also seems to have better rightclick options. However it does flicker just like OD does when Quicktime is playing a clip and a window is moved ontop of the QT player.

Mobydock disadvantages: applications do not appear when they are running or opened

C'mon guys give me the ability to place the dock where I want....I know I am not alone, c'mon, please!!!!

How (if at all) will the GDI+ engine or custom engine be effected by the new DX9 release?
So far, no issues here. Single click and double click work fine.
I have not had any issues with explorer.exe as stated above.
Creating a restore point now so I can load the DX9 runtime.
Time to break stuff... Cool
I will report back if any issues with DX9.
OK... Just loaded DX9 runtimes.
So far so good. Window creation appears to be a bit faster actually.
GDI + Engine still a bit sluggish, Custom Engine works like a dream.
I'm running the dock on a PIII 750 with 256 MB ram and a ATI Rage Mobility AGP P/M video card with only 8MB of ram.
Basically, it's an older Dell Latitude laptop.
I'm very impressed with how the dock functions on this laptop.

I know my current browser choice is way down on the food chain, but .75 pretty much kills page rendering in Netscape 7.01.
