Faster...

Does WinCustomize seem faster now? Somewhat faster or a lot faster? If it does, thank WinCustomize subscribers. Their subscriptions allowed us to buy a new server.

Yup, certainly noticing the difference - AND I'm behind a 56K modem with 2 bits of wet string as a phone line...

Yes I have to say that all of the pages seem to load faster then they did before...definately better than before

Much faster! A big thank you to all the subscribers!!

It is much faster (almost instant) using the WC Browser. The usual web page seems to run about the same speed.

I must qualify my above statement. I have a 3meg dsl line, so it is always pretty fast relative to say a 56k modem. Perhaps with my highspeed connection I won't really notice much of a speed increase, whereas someone with a 56k would.

Sheesh. All the improvements you guys claim to have made this year and I still see no difference on my DSL connection. I'm a ODN subscriber and plan to be for a while because I love all the apps. But I refuse to pay money for the Wincustomize subscription until I see some improvement on my end. I'm a level 3 and I believe level 4 is the highest. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to be an ass, nor am I complaining because I love the site. I'm just stating the facts. This site is slow as hell.

Sorry to hear that. If that is the case, don't expect any improvements as at this piont it's about as fast as it's going to get for a long while. You may want to talk to your DSL provider.

Much faster here too as well! Thanks for bringing the hardware online!

Jarget, the initial changes made with the new server will impact everything "display"-oriented on the site (ASP generating the HTML for your browser, which was the limiting factor).

With the splitting of subscriber download links to another set of bandwith, the base WC site has more than enough capacity to actually get files down (and has for months, we've been CPU bound). If you're experiencing slow performance, I would look to the last couple of hops in the pipe as it gets down to you.

Only a few times in the last couple of months have I experienced a slow down on the site. So overall I have been pleased with everything. I'am happy to here that we are faster. I use the SB 95% of the time anyway and I have seen that it is faster than when I'am not using it. So I'am glad my $20 could help.

bit faster for me here! in the middle-east

It seems more consistently quick now, which makes a big difference. The site was slow. Then is was fast/slow depending on time of day. Seem now things are quite quick all the time.

Thanks Wincustomize

Someone supercharged my 56k snail.... [still a snail, but now it sounds better]...

I agree with Bill Sawyer as far as the consistency goes. Happy to see our contributions benefit the folks still stuck behind dial-up connections also.

It certainly seems to be running better on my end. Thanks everyone!

I'm in the same position as MarkL, it' noticeably faster now.

I think the next step that would have the biggest impact on loading time would be to redo the page designs using DIV tags instead of tables. On my own sites that I've converted I've noticed a 40% to 70% decrease in loading time.

I've noticed that there are lots of pages inside the index.asp page e.g index.asp?cmd=help and index.asp?cmd=submit.

Maybe if these were split up into separate pages it would help performance?

I have bought Objectdesktop & WinCustomize. And I have to say that I love all the effects that it brings to my desaktop (BUT) I seen to have more problems with the payed for versions than I did with the free ones. But I work them out daily. I would of liked to have seen more documentation come with your products. But I have used windowblinds for years & now Objectdesktop with all the other features which I love and will continue to support your site & products.

P.S. It's much faster now.
