Cybersquatting Extortion Scheme Targets WinStep

WinStep Technologies has created one of the most popular skinnable shareware applications to date with NextSTART. Ever wonder why their website resides at winstep.net rather than the more popular, and famed, .com suffix?

I spoke with the one-man army behind WinStep, Jorge Coelho, at length today in what was, basically, a plea for help. A call-to-arms, so to speak, to help spread the word of the evil extortionist scheme that he has been intertwined in, no thanks to some unfaithful cybersquatter (what cybersquatters are faithful for that matter?).

Nope, never wondered. What I wondered is why "WinStep" and not NextStart.com? I'd never guess the URL from either product they offer. Simply someone beat him to the .com tld. It sucks, but that's the breaks.

What is it we're supposed to do for Jorge exactly?

Russ, that is not the point. I couldn't care less about him having the winstep.com domain. I'm happy with winstep.net.

The point is that Markmann has been trying to force me to buy his domain using a number of dirty tricks.

Read my clarification in the middle of the thread at DeviantArt.
