Anti Aliasing Broken?

Anti Aliasing changes in game don't take effect.

Has anyone had any problems with the anti aliasing options in game not actually doing anything? I apply them but there is clearly no anti aliasing applied to the image quality and the performance isn't affected either. I can however force anti aliasing within my Catalyst Control Center. I'm running the latest patch.

I'm running the following system:

Phenom II X3 720 BE @ 3.5Ghz

HD 4850 @ 700/1100 - Catalyst 9.8

4GB OCZ Reaper DDR3

Windows XP Pro SP2

I've seen AA break with my ATI card after I get an invalid gamestate, but I reboot and it is doing something again.
