Favorite Map?

Was just curious as to who liked what from the stock maps and why. :grin:

 

I personally like Gateway, especially (This has happened in the few games I've played with friends) mid-game when the factions who haven't made a push to get a foothold in the second system start clashing.

 

So what does everyone else like?

If you like Gateway, try the custom map Gateway to Paradise.

I don't know if it could qualify as a "favorite" but based on popularity, the Random Single Star maps are the most popular ones.

I haven't played too many of the stock maps, maybe about half in total.  Personally I find the random map generator generally does a better job (though the random part can screw you over...) and that's why I and most other people online go with them.  Gateway is possibly the most popular of the premades, but personally I don't think it's anything special.

Now, I love the work of a lot of the community mappers, including DirtySanchezz here.  That's not to insult Ironclad; we have the benefit of knowing how the meta-game of Sins of a Solar Empire is played and we have a good sense of how a player will be able to orchaestrate their offense and defense in specific situations.  When IC was making their maps before the game's release (and LONG before plastyles matured), they were mostly taking a stab in the dark.

I hear Diplo will be adding new maps. Though Im not sure how many or if that official. Of the stock one Razor Edge is one I play often. And Derlict is another one I enjoy. Though I had to make a new one for more players.

Derelict is an awesome 1v1 map.  Too bad it has a powerful Vasari bias.

Of the stock maps, I guess if I had to pick a favorite non-random map it would probably be Entanglement.  Gaian Cresent isn't bad either for those few times when I play a 1v1.
