WindowsFX broke my system

Ok, I'm really frustrated at this sofware. I initially only installed two parts of this $50 suite and it's already mucked things up drastically. I used deskscapes to set up a few animated desktops and then got windowsfx and customized a few settings. Well that broke deskscapes so that the background is missing with just a weird partially shadowed static background showing. So I assumed it was a setting in windowsfx that 'broke' deskscapes (although one would think that different parts of a suite wouldn't adversely affect each other) and therefore went through to reset all the selections to their initial states (like off or deselected). Low and behold everything I try to disable comes up with a blasted modal window titled wfxload with the text "an unsupported operation was attempted" and so I'm totally stuck with a fouled up system now. I'm totally sorry I wasted 50 bucks on this now as it doesn't look like it is even worth the hassle and I don't even want to download anything else at this point...

fwitw, I'm running a 32bit xp sp3 OS and E8400 dual core cpu with 4gb ram, tons of hd space on 3 drives, an nvidia 8800gt card. there's totally nothing lacking in these specs.

Hang in there.  The 'unsupported operation' error message from WFX has been reported before (happens to me, too) and, while annoying, has no actual effect.  I'm sure it's on the to do list, but you can click it off & ignore it for now - whatever 'operation' you were doing still happened.

The Deskscapes interaction may have been reported before as well, but I'm not certain.  I would have expected both to have been fixed in the 10/30/09 WFX update but apparently not.

FWIW, there is also an incompatibility between some of WFX's advanced desktop features & Fences' hide/unhide functionality, at least on some rigs.

Can't blame you for expecting the various components of the suite to play nice with each other, but there are a few of those odd conflicts (some end up being macine-specific & unreproducible) that SD's had a tough time sorting out.

Hope you won't let that stop you from trying out some of the other apps.

For now, you could run 'System Restore' to a point prior to the WinFX changes... that would return your desktop to normal until a fix is found.  Also, it would be a good idea to start a support ticket with [email protected].  Provide as much information as you can (hardware specs and error logs, etc) to give them the best opportunity to help you resolve your issue.

As Daiwa noted above, some issues are machine specific, and that may be the case with WinFX on your rig, but please don't feel this is indicative of the entire ObjectDesktop suite.  The more popular apps, WindowBlinds, IconPackager and RightClick, etc, work very well together on most systems, so yeah, give the other apps a try to see how you go.

I've been running ObjectDesktop and other Stardock apps for about 5 years now, on XP, Vista 32 and 64 bit, now Win 7. and I've experienced very few issues in all that time... and those I did (very, very rarely), Stardock were quick to resolve them.
